You can be a sweet dream or a beautiful nightmare WHO: Yako and Naoya WHERE: Their bedroom, 208 of Niflheim WHEN: The morning after Nightmare Day RATING: PG, PG-13ish. It gets emotional WARNINGS: None, except for two very tired people with screwed up sibling-relationships SUMMARY: After mistaking each other for their respective brother, having an intensely emotional encounter and falling asleep wrapped up in drama and each other, the two roommates wake to a very...awkward conversation.
Yako hadn't dreamt. After a full day of being subjected to that hellish delirium-slash-reality, not even the cursed Black Dream that had haunted her for months on end flitted through the blessed darkness. Sadly, the darkness seemed to be set on slipping away bit by bit, until she felt the insistent tug of awareness start up. Three very important facts tried to establish themselves in her drowsy mind.
She was not under her covers. (The bed felt familiar though...)
She was not in her pajamas. (Odd, but she had slept in her clothes before...)
And she was thoroughly tangled in the limbs of someone else. (....wait, what?)
There was a brief flicker of alarm, before the horrible memories of yesterday filtered in., and she relaxed back into the hold. It was just Sai; he had shown up yesterday with Dad's corpse and chased her for a while. He had attacked her, but they had traded words that seemed to have hit the perfect cord within him. She smiled sleepily against a warm collarbone. They had reconciled and fallen asleep together and...
Wait.
Something...something about yesterday was--
Come back little sister~! Don't you want to spend some quality time with Big Brother and Daddy?
Something was--
Open up, baby sister.
Wrong.
Because Sai didn't know that they were siblings. Didn't remember killing their father anymore. Probably didn't remember anything at all. And there was no way her father's corpse could be so fresh. So how had he---who was she--
Your brother isn't here. Snap out of it, Yako.
Oh, hell. Naoya.
...not just Naoya, she realized. Cain.
The Cain who committed the first murder. Who killed his own little brother.
N-...Naoya...? I-I think big brother is going to...to kill me too...
Sai hadn't been there at all. Couldn't have been there. It had probably all been in her head, except for the attack. And from there, Naoya's face and voice must have been twisted into Sai's. She could only assume that the famed form of Abel had been superimposed over her own, to him. And that all lead up to her current dilemma.
She was twined in a desperate, protective embrace with her roommate.
