The tall-ish green-wearing plumber had his hands up, ready for anyone who might attempt to attack from the front, and he was absolutely certain that the hallway behind him was empty. Still... ghosts walked right through walls, didn't they? Ohh... So many things to think about... He knew he could easily take anyone from his right, as his right hand was stronger and he packed a mean uppercut with that hand. And if someone came from the left? A Karate chop, naturally. But... what if the ghost came from below?? And kidnapped him and took him away to an even more haunted mansion where he would surely die of fright? He shuddered to think of it.
As he over-thought his possible courses of action should an attacker make an appearance, he failed to notice the sneaking steps of the possible monster creeping up behind him. Wondering whether it was possible that his brother simply hadn't heard his pitifully timid calls, he cupped a hand and held it to his mouth. "M-M-Maaaaaari -- WAAAHHH!"
A ghost! A sneaky ghost! A monster, out to eat his spine and laugh as he lay screaming! Or chew off his legs so he couldn't run away! All previous thoughts of fighting back forgotten, Luigi leapt around the corner and dived into the closest room and jammed the door shut. The room he'd chosen was not much better - so dark! - and he let out another scream before tumbling to the ground, the bucket and sponge he'd been looking for crashing out with him. Dusting himself off, he looked back where he'd been when the ghost surprised him. Hey... that was not a ghost! Frowning, he straightened his hat.
"What was that for?" he demanded in such a timid way only Luigi could.
