WHO: Tabby and Open WHEN: Week three, Monday WHAT: Tabby shows up at W&H WHERE: W&H STATUS: Active
It was easier to look at everything as a kind of adventure. Particularly when alone, in a foreign country and addled with jet lag. She had what she hoped was a reasonable enough amount of money, the key to a relatively clean hotel room and a map. Not that she was especially good at reading maps, but having it there provided some sense of security.
It would have been easier if she'd somehow been able to rope her brother into coming with her. Except that would have meant hauling him out of his studies. It would have meant dragging him away from home for who knew how long, too. It would have meant telling him about all those strange little things she'd been hiding from her family.
In the end, she'd decided to keep them in the dark. After all, she was still in the dark herself. She didn't know where she would have even begun explaining what was happening. Despite her parent's tolerance, their open and understanding ways, she couldn't bring herself to tell them. There was that possibility that this could be something that they couldn't try and understand. That they would think there was something seriously wrong with her. So she kept the weird powers a secret and tried to act like everything was normal. It had sort of worked, for a bit.
Until the letter had arrived. Anonymous and not exactly overflowing with details, she had initially put it in a drawer and tried to ignore it. For a while she thought it might have been some sort of elaborate joke. Unless that joke was being bitten by a radioactive spider, she had to accept the strange reality of it. Her parents hadn't questioned her story about wanting to spend a gap year traveling before heading off to university. Plenty of people did it. They said they thought it would be good for her, that she should see the world, maybe some Hollywood mogul would talent scout her. They wished her luck, in their tolerant, open and understanding way.
Tabby doubled checked the address on the letter with the building she'd arrived at. It seemed to be the place. A rather intimidating looking place. For a moment she wondered if this was really such a wise idea.
Something told her she had to do it.
Letter in hand, she walked inside. "Um, hello?" she called out, peering around for any signs of life. "Is there anyone about?"
