This was all happening so fast but for the first time in his life, it didn’t scare Dean. Normally he would have been running for the hills by now but she made him want to stay. He liked being with her. He could be himself and not have to worry and that was something he most certainly wasn’t accustomed to. His whole life had been a tissue of half truths and outright lies and it was refreshing to be able to be himself.
He would never have foreseen things happening this quickly but it somehow felt right. She had only been in his life for a few hours but at the same time, he felt like she’d always been there. So whatever happened later tonight would just make things better. Bring them closer.
The nerves were still there though and that too was surprising. There was nothing, truly, to feel nervous about. It wasn’t as if he was some shy little virgin on a first date with some maneater who was going to chew him up and spit him out afterwards. Dean had been around enough to hold his own with women but he was more concerned about making the whole evening perfect for her. He loved the whole newness of their relationship but that same newness could be daunting too. But, this was getting him nowhere. He was over-analyzing things and that took away the spontaneity of it so he made himself relax.
Grinning across the offending table at her. “Well, I know how strong you must be but I guess ripping it off its fixings and chucking it across the bar might just get us thrown out?”
