Good god! She was actually as nervous about this as he was. What the hell was happening here? And the thought of her dying made him feel as though someone had tipped a bucket of cold water over him. Maybe he should stop this now, nip it in the bud before it went any further and one of them got badly hurt. The kind of hurt that you never truly get over.
He was busy trying to think of a way to back off a little without hurting when she stepped forward, mentioning the flowers, then kissing him full on the lips. The kiss was soft and gentle but it convinced him that any thoughts of walking away from this were futile.
Pressing the flowers into her hand, he backed her against the wall, into the shadows, and kissed her back. Harder. The only thing that finally broke that kiss was the sound of cab’s horn being sounded impatiently. Drawing back, he stroked his fingers down her face. “Guess that’s our cue to move?” he stopped away from her and walked to the cab, holding the door open for her and making sure she was settled before he got in himself. Once inside, he leaned over and draped his arm round her shoulders, whispering so that the driver wouldn’t hear.
“You know…if you wanted to kick his ass good and hard for interrupting I wouldn’t really be in too much of a hurry to stop you.”
