“Seven’s great.” He smiled down at her, then frowned as she put herself down. “Don’t say stuff like that. You look great, wherever you’ve been. Believe me, I don’t look anywhere near as good as you do after I’ve been working out.”
He glanced at his watch only just managed to suppress a sigh. Seven o’clock seemed like hours away even though it was only a few, but he could use the time to make sure he looked good enough to take her out. He suspected that in a lot of ways, she would be just like him. Always just that little bit lonely and scared to let anyone too close in case he endangered them, or they found out what he really did for a living. They both deserved this time out!
Quickly, before he changed his mind, he leaned down and brushed his lips against hers. “See you at seven...and don’t forget the leather?” Then he was walking away, back round to the street where he had parked his car and willing the time to move faster.
