If the moment had been less serious, Wesley might have feigned a heart attack or otherwise teased Angel about how much that admission must've hurt. But he didn't feel very much like teasing about anything today. "Just because your relationship with Buffy has evolved the way it has doesn't mean that every single other relationship you will have will go down that road. You have been around long enough to know that you only love like that once in your lifetime, no matter how long that lifetime is. And you are my friend, Angel, the closest I have ever had. And I don't want you becoming a recluse again. The world needs its Champion, Angel, and you need to be a part of it."
Wesley gave a disbelieving shake of his head. "Who is he going to sire? The only people around this place are Slayers and Watchers, and they are certainly not going to let themselves be made into vampires," he scoffed, having completely missed Angel's almost-mention. "Angel... Spike is not your responsibility. However, you do have experience with this, and we have to stop him from doing something rather rash. If he's considering turning someone, then it's possible he's been feeding on human blood again, although--well, it's not like I've been in a position to know." He sighed. "I must do some research as soon as the party disbands," he said, making a face. "See if there's been a rash of bodies lying about town. If there have been... I'm going with you to stop him, because he'll be stronger than before. I'll pull one or two of my books, and see if I can find an appropriate containment spell to keep him confined until we can get him back here and under some sort of... control." At the mention of books, his head snapped up. "Angel. In one of Giles' diaries of the Sunnydale destruction, Giles wrote in detail of a situation where Spike had been under the influence of the First Evil, with a specific trigger. He didn't mention what that trigger was, of course, in case the books should ever fall into the wrong hands, but he'll certainly tell me if I ask. It's possible that someone else has found this trigger out, possibly someone connected with the First, and is using that to control his actions. We've got to move quickly, before he gets out of town."
