Wesley sighed. "I am assuming that this young lady is one of the Slayers that was Awakened by Buffy and Willow?" Off Angel's half nod, he continued. "I thought as much. Surely you know that the young lady is always going to have the risk of a shortened life span so long as her destiny is to be one of the Chosen. Whether or not you're involved with her, or in her life at all, that is always going to be the risk, just as it is with Buffy, with Faith, with every other Slayer that has been since the line was first bound by the Shadow Men. That much is out of your hands. And I know you know it, I'm simply being the voice of reason and reminding you of what you already know." He put the coffee cup down, then sat back, crossing his legs. "You say that you can survive losing Spike, but you also know that is not very bloody likely any longer. Now that he's a soul, he's likely under the same... I hesitate to say protection, but there is a supernatural force that seems to be dedicated to your survival, that you are." He sighed, and he shook his head at the mention of Fred. "Angel. What happened to Fred, and to Cordelia... it's not because we loved them. I'm not cursed, neither are you. What happened to Cordelia, and to Fred, happened because they are a part of this world. This supernatural world, the world where demons exist, people are brought back from the dead, where magic is more than pulling rabbits out of hats or doves from mice. It is a dangerous world full of danger, death, and destruction and try as we might, those of us who are merely human are going to the be the ones who are the most fragile. Even Slayers have a step up on me, on Cordelia, on Fred, on any of the other Watchers or hunters that we've worked with. They have instincts, they have the ability to fight, they're stronger, quicker, they heal faster." He pinched the bridge of his nose. "Need I remind you how many times Buffy herself has held her own against you, against Spike, against the plethora of demonic opponents over the years, even the First?" His voice softened as he reached out to Angel, putting a hand on his shoulder. "How much longer do you think you can shut yourself away from the possibility of having friends, lovers, family? One of the basic needs that drives us is that of human contact. You shut yourself away from the world once, and the Powers That Be sent you someone to pull you out of that solitude and get you in touch with the world. How many times do you think they're going to do that? You have to meet them halfway."
