Giles sat back in the chair, more than a little stunned. It had never occurred to him that Angel could have a family, much less feel this way about them. "That just proves it," Giles said softly. "The man that is in this room with me right now is a man that I can trust. I understand now, Angel. You wanted what was best, safest for your son, even if that means now that you are not a part of his life." He folded his hands in his lap. "There have been times that I wished to be able to do that for Buffy, you realize," he admitted, though it wasn't a thought he had admitted to anyone before. "I would have gladly given up ever having met Buffy if it meant that she was safe, and never had to die or have this destiny thrust upon her." He shook his head. "It is a parent's instinct to protect our children. Fathers especially; it is the patriarchal way of the world that fathers are protectors of the family."
