Week Two Stuff
Week Two Stuff
Hey y'all! Welcome to week two!
We have a new addition to the cast, welcome sonofthemoon, Lucius Bastien! Hopefully he'll be posting an intro of his own soon!
Next, Halloween! However y'all want to handle this is okay by me, just keep me informed and I'll coordinate. I'm good at that.
Thirdly, dun-dun-dun. bitcaewedoe is the journal of our new big bad. Her profile is already posted, her PB is Sarah Shahi, and I'll post the bio here.
Maricha (mah-REE-cha) is a very old, and very powerful, Indian demon. First spoken of in the Ramayana (the record of the reign of King Rama), Maricha is a rakshasi that is widely known for being a traitor and mimic. Rakshasas are a populous race of supernatural humanoids who tend toward evil. Powerful warriors, they resort to the use of magic and illusion when unsuccessful with conventional weapons. As shapechangers, they can assume various physical forms, and it is not always clear whether they have a true or natural form. As illusionists, they are capable of creating appearances which are real to those who believe in them or who fail to dispel them. Rakshasas are cannibals, and make their gleeful appearance when the slaughter on the battlefield is at its worst.
Originally a man, Maricha was in the shape of a golden hind when he was shot between the horns by Lakshmana, brother of King Rama and a hero to the people. Maricha was in the midst of a deception when he was shot, and with his dying breath he completed his mission, luring Lakshmana away and allowing Lakshmana's wife to be kidnapped by Ravana, king of the rakshasas. As his reward, Ravana resurrected Maricha, but because his masculine form had been destroyed by Lakshmana, Maricha was reborn as a female, a rakshasi.
For the next few thousand years, Maricha lived in fear of Rama and Lakshmana, especially after Lakshmana murdered Ravana, and she retreated to a deserted island where she remained in hiding, living in a stilted hut that moved about on wooden legs if anyone came near the island. As she spent more time in her female body, Maricha grew more and more fond of it, and only ventured away from her island to hunt and devour human flesh, so as to keep her body in good condition.
Thousands of years before the birth of the man Jesus in Bethlehem, Maricha rejoined the world. By the time she had, Rama and the others had long since faded from memory and were little more than legends. Her own kind, rakshasas, were all but gone, with only a few of them yet in existence. Haunted and hunted, Maricha fled that region altogether and instead made her way to the as-yet undiscovered continent of South America. Both the Incans and the Mayans revered her, calling her Ixtab and feeding her the bodies of their suicides.
However, Maricha grew tired of the life of Ixtab and left the Mayan temples to head north and the burgeoning populations of Native Americans. Instead of going the route of deity, Maricha moved from tribe to tribe, living as a shamaness and feeding off the spoils of tribal conflicts. Maricha had one offspring in all this time, a creature named Wendigo, a half-human, half rakshasa who like his mother fed on human flesh.
Frontier life was easy for Maricha, because it was easy to feed and fly on the wide open plains, although as civilization grew denser and more populated, she became better at feeding because one extra body wouldn't raise an eyebrow as there were already so many around. The time of the World Wars was Maricha's greatest delight, and Vietnam allowed her to gorge herself on fallen American and Viet Cong alike. After the half-century of complete gluttony, Maricha has found that she needs to feed much less often than before, perhaps three to four times a decade.
Maricha's current situation is much more palatable; that of an international playgirl. She is currently posing as Marsha Clellan, the widow of a rich industrialist. He was actually a snack on the night of their third anniversary, but she continued to impersonate him until staging his death two years later, and she inherited his one hundred million dollar fortune.
Maricha is well aware of both apocalypses that didn't come to pass. Several months ago, about the time that the anonymous packages started going out, Maricha received one as well with a strange circular emblem on it. Ever since, she has been receiving regular communique packages and orders, the most recent one being the order to resurrect certain individuals.
Resurrections are difficult for rakshasas because they are death bringers, not life givers, but she has been making arrangements for the first one to take place.
I'll be posting general guidelines in the week change posts to give you an idea of how much of this you can bring into the game at any given time; at the moment, since she's just starting to stir around in LA, not much is going to be known. That she's a woman, fine, that she's got money, fine, things like that. But please, nothing real specific! I think Faith and Beth are the only real Slayers in game right now, so if Faith wants to dream of this, I'm down. I know that Beth is, but it won't be very specific, just flashes of flesh-eating, blood, the walking hut, things like that.
If there's anything you can think of that needs to be added to the in-game week change post, let me know. Um... I think that's it. I'm glad y'all are all here and having a good time! *squishes*
