Ron had been feeling increasingly guilty since their last run in with Percy. Percy was a knob, and he deserved it, but Molly had been upset, and Ron and Ginny had felt like heels after they left. Plus now their food had been cold for days, when they had any at all, and Ron was all too aware that he was going to have to sneak off with Harry and Hermione soon, and that would just make her MORE brassed and worried. (Even if the twins' little gift would help with that.)
So after one too many times of hearing Molly banging about pots and pans in her upset, Ron and GInny had decided to try to make it up to her. They'd waited until she'd gone out and then headed down to the kitchen to try to make supper. There were books with recipes, and they could mix a potion when they had to - how hard could SUPPER be, Ron had reasoned.
So far, it wasn't going well. "What's burning?" he asked suspiciously, peering at the book and trying to figure out if he'd added too much salt to the stew, or not enough. He decided on the latter and added another few tablespoons. He liked salt anyway, he reasoned, and the book said something about undersalting meaning it wouldn't have any flavor.
