All the actions that had laid themselves out before him, Dean should have guessed that the brave move that Demelza had made would eventually happen. They had been apart for more than he would have liked, but it was enough for him to forget her straightforwardness. It seemed as though no matter what had escaped from his lips, there was a good chance that she wouldn't listen to any of it. There was no doubt that Dean wanted to be close to the blonde once again, but he meant his words as a friend. She had jumped the gun as she leaned forward and placed a deep kiss upon his own lips. Just like any other boy his age, a snog was exactly that, feeling himself return the gesture slightly. It was a simple reaction, however, Dean had realized immediately that the spark hadn't been there. If it was, then it decided not to be as obvious as it used to be. It hadn't taken him much longer than a few seconds to pull back from the intimate moment.
For a moment, words had failed him. He wanted to blurt out the reason that he broke up with her, but resisted for the most part. Either way, she needed a straight answer. "Demelza, stop. I'm trying to be nice here. I don't want to hurt your feelings, but you're making this difficult," he began to explain, already feeling the pit of his stomach clam up. To him, it was obvious that he broke up with her because of his lingering feelings for Ginny. It wasn't fair to either one of them if their relationship continued, especially since he had never figured out things to begin with prior to beginning their quality time together. Then, there was these thoughts about Lisa that crept in once in a while. Merlin only knew what was happening there. "I like someone else, okay? I just -- I just didn't want ot hurt you."
