Eyes darted somewhat in the direction that Demelza's own had done for a few seconds. It seemed as though they were on the same wave length of not wanting another pair of ears to accidentally hear their conversation. Their moment was private, so he was glad that no one had pressed themselves into the middle of it, or had an extra ear upon them. But then again, who really would unless they were in Hogwarts with them, right? The event unfolded them had been another conversation that allowed both of them to grow more for the experience. As much as Dean had enjoyed the time he had spent with the blonde, they were over. The feelings were still there. Perhaps, they would always be there, but Dean had to learn how to move on before settling himself in anther relationship or hopping back to his ex-girlfriend. It wouldn't be fair with the girl.
Dean felt her hand slip into his grasp, lacing her fingers within his own. A part of him knew that he should have pulled back, retracted the admittance because it only seemed to make the situation worse. It was almost as though he was digging a grave for himself, even though all he wanted to do was be friends with Demelza. That's all they were meant to be. "Dem," he started to explain, placing the other hand on top of her own. "It wouldn't be fair to either one of us if we went back to pretending that our break up didn't happen. I want you as my friend." Of course, Dean knew that it wasn't enough for her. The reason wasn't exactly clear, but with what he had on his mind, it was the best that he could do. It was better to withhold the real reason that they couldn't be together. Not to mention that she made it really hard to deny her, especially since she wanted to seal the deal with a kiss.
