The only sound in the office was a quill scratching diligently across parchment. Marietta sat at her meager desk writing a grievance letter. It wasn't the most spectacular task, but at least it was something. Her supervisor, Percy Weasley, had stepped out of the office for a very late lunch. Marietta had gone on time, so when the Minister frantically poked his head out of his office door five minutes ago, she was the only person to be seen. Therefore writing the letter fell upon her shoulders.
Marietta wasn't going to complain--it was the most productive work she had been involved in since being hired. It was much better than fetching coffee or office supplies. Marietta felt quite content and useful at the moment. She was nearly finished, in fact, all she had left to do was proofread the parchment before she knocked on the Minister's door to get his approval and signature before sending it off. Her quill was poised above the writing surface, ready to correct the slightest error or matters of diction. It was a grievance letter, and that meant the tone had to be just right. When she was pleased with her work, she took it over to the Minister's office and knocked on the door. The minister read the letter, gave Marietta an appreciative smile, and signed the parchment.
As she exited the office, Marietta turned toward the door so she could shut it as quietly as possible. When she turned around with the letter in hand, she was surprised to find a stranger standing in her office.
