Characters: Max O'Flaherty, Camden Harper and Melinda Bobbin
Setting: Sunday evening, close to curfew, in the third floor corridor
Summary: Max and Cam start snogging again and get caught
Rating: PG, just snogging
Max shifted her bag, balancing the books in a slightly more comfortable way and left the library. She’d attempted to get in a bit of extra studying, well aware a study session was long over due, but she hadn’t been able to keep her mind on the task at hand. Instead she’d had Pince sign out several awkwardly large tomes and decided she’d rather attempt to study on her comfortable bed. As she turned down the corridor heading for the stairs she noticed a familiar head ahead of her, ducking around a corner. Her smile hitched and she hurried to catch up, rounding the corner and calling out before she slowed her pace. “Don’t you have better places to be, Harper,” she said, smirking.
Shooting a glance over his shoulder, Cam couldn’t keep a grin from hitching up but managed to settle it into a smirk instead. “I’m pretty sure you were the one following me,” he told her, resisting the urge to reach out and help her with her unwieldy bag. “Not hard to understand why, though.”
Max fought the urge to reach out and pull him into a snog and simply gave a shrug as she walked up to him. “Yeah, but I wasn’t talking about me. Just you. I have nowhere better to be,” she added, only just stopping herself from winking at him. “What are you doing out now anyway?”
“Bored,” Cam answered, though that wasn’t the whole story. He’d been thinking a lot since he’d gotten back from the holidays. He hadn’t been able to get his conversation with his father about taking the Mark, and with Addy, out of his head. Max relaxed him, he felt like himself around her, not who he was supposed to be, who his father thought he should be, but like himself, but he couldn’t tell her what had happened. “You got somewhere else better to be,” he corrected her, waggling his eyebrows.
Max rolled her eyes at his line but couldn’t help her grin. “Merlin, Cam,” she chuckled, “You are so cheesy.”
Reaching out, Cam snagged an arm around her waist, tugging her close. “You keep comin’ round,” he pointed out, dropping a kiss to her neck. “Cheesy I may be, but it works.”
“Never said I had any taste,” she muttered, dropping her bag to the floor with a thunk as he tugged her in. Her arm looped around his neck and though she was trying to come up with more banter she decided she didn’t care that much and stretched up to snog him.
Grinning easily, Cam wrapped his arms around her and kissed her deeply, holding her close. He loved the way she felt against him and relaxed in her embrace, tugging her closer and spinning them, pressing her back against the wall.
Melting slightly into his hold, Max wrapped her other arm around her neck and held on as she kissed him back and wrapped a leg around his. The stone wall was rough against her back and they were right out in the open but Max found she really didn’t mind, more interested in kissing him, it had been too long.
Pressing his leg between hers, Cam gripped her thigh, stroking his fingers along her skin and kissing her. “Fuck,” he murmured, when they broke for air, though really what he wanted to breathe was her name. He grinned down at her, ducking his head and kissing along her neck.
“Merlin,” she sighed, running her hand up the back of his neck and into his hair as she let her head fall to the side, giving him room to work it over. “You are So much better than studying,” she murmured, stroking the back of his head.
“‘m better than a lot of things,” he told her, nibbling up her neck towards her ear as he slid his fingers around the back of her thigh, stroking the soft skin there.
Max felt a little shiver shoot through her as he stroked her thigh and arched against him. She tugged his hair lightly, pulling his head back so she could snog him again. She knew they needed to stop and move out of the open hall as she wanted nothing more than the take things further but she didn’t want to stop snogging just yet.
There were days when Melinda liked being a Prefect. She didn't mind helping the younger years find their way, or sending people back to their dorms. Even rounds were nice, sometimes - the halls were usually quiet by then, and she had time alone with her thoughts. (Though sometimes Hogwarts could be a little creepy, at night.) But other days, she hated it. Melinda wasn't built for confrontation, and there was nothing more embarrassing than breaking up couples. She didn't want to do it, she never knew HOW to do it without humiliating them all, and she knew they must resent her for it.
As she rounded the corner, Melinda heard the familiar sound of heavy breathing and groaned inwardly. This wasn't going to be one of those easy nights where she could just wander about on rounds, and then tuck back into bed, apparently.
She opened her mouth to say something, but wasn't sure WHAT to say. Which saved her from making herself known, because she spotted just who it WAS snogging in the hallway.
Melinda was observant, and even if she very rarely said anything, she usually knew the eddies and currents of things around her. She caught who fancied who, and who was sneaking off at the same times, and who wasn't speaking to who that week. It was ridiculous, usually, but she still knew. And Camden Harper was her year. They shared classes and a House, they usually had invitations to the same parties over the summer. She wouldn't call him a friend - but then, Mellie had never known how to make friends very well. She DID know his family though, and she knew his opinions on things.
So him in a passionate liplock with a girl that Melinda only vaguely knew, but still knew was very much not a pureblood was a shock. And Melinda had the sudden certainty that Camden would probably very much not want her to see this happening.
Slytherins tended to look the other way for their own House, and Melinda rarely broke that rule unless it was a big enough infraction that she couldn't look the other way - largely because she was easily intimidated by half of her Housemates. And with that in mind, Melinda meant to just duck away, make a noise from further down the hall to break them up, and give them time to get away without knowing they'd been spotted.
As she backed up to duck back around the corner though, she stumbled on her own robes a little, catching herself against the wall, but making just enough noise that when she looked up, she was certain Cam had seen her, and knew she'd caught him.
They both heard the noise and stiffened, Cam backing away from her. It wasn’t that he was ashamed of her, quite the opposite. He thought she was quick and smart and funny and he genuinely liked her. He just knew that if it got out that they were... whatever they were, it would get back to his father and things would very quickly go bad for him.
So when he glanced up the corridor and saw Melinda Bobbin at the corner, his heart clenched in his throat. “Fuck,” he breathed, his face falling.
It took Max a second to register the noise and Cam was already pulling away from her when she glanced over and saw the other girl. A slight panic gripped her but was quickly squashed when she glanced over at Cam and saw the horror on his face. She’d never thought of them as anything more than very friendly friends, and she liked him but it had always been just that. The look on his face though hurt and she felt her stomach twist uncomfortably. Darting under his arm, Max avoided Melinda’s gaze as she grabbed her bag off the floor and darted down the other end of the corridor.
“Fuck!” though Cam’s first instinct had been to go after Melinda, threaten her to keep quiet, the look on Max’s face stopped him and he twisted after her as she pushed past him. He opened his mouth to call for her, but caught himself. “Fuck!” he yelped, balling up his fist and slamming it into the wall, a gesture he instantly regretted. He shot a threatening glare down the hall at Melinda, before taking off after Max. She was more important than intimidating Melinda.
