Heading down the stairs that lead to the common room, Dean's mind was still filled with thoughts of the letter that was sent by his brother. A part of him wished that he had gone home for the holidays, talk to her in person. Even Alice Longbottom had offered to escort him to the Thomas household. And as much as Dean never doubted her abilities as an Auror, he wasn't sure if it was such a good idea. She was capable, but if something happened on the way there, he would never forgive himself for putting people in harm's way. It was a better idea to stay locked up within Hogwarts. Besides, it wasn't all that bad. Seamus was there, and so was Lavender too. With them around, Christmas was going to be a good one. There was never a dull moment with those two around for company.
There was also the advice that Alice had given him. Dean had thought about writing to Kinglsey before, especially since there should be a reason in the first place that he had ventured over to see his mother. It felt as though there was more of a reason than showing a picture of his brother. If Alice trusted Kingsley, then there was no reason to not trust the older man, even though the doubt was still there.
Dean had shuffled the wrapping items within his arms for a few seconds, just as he got to the bottom of the stairs. He had spent the last hour wrapping presents the muggle way. It felt more appropriate to wrap each one that way. Of course, he could easily do it with a quick spell, but that wasn't something he was going to do anytime soon. Even though he had stuck them all back in his trunk, Dean was sure that Seamus would end up sneaking a peek at the gift before the end of the night. There really wasn't anything that he could hide from his best mate for that long. It always seemed to come out sooner rather or later, even if he made an attempt to keep a bit of information a secret.
With the roll of wrapping paper in his right hand, Dean bounced it off the top of the couch just inches away from Seamus' head. It was only to meant to get his attention in a different way than normal. "Oi, mate. Did you still need to wrap any of your gifts? I've got plenty of paper and what not left," he asked before raising an eyebrow as a thought entered his mind with a smile. "Where's Lavender?"
