It wasn't uncommon to find Andrew Kirke at the centre of some disaster or another. His skinny limbs were folded under him and he sat in the middle of a circle of parchment and open books on the floor, the coffee table shoved back to make room for him. His Transfiguration homework was the order of the hour, but he had lost interest in the specifics of it almost the moment he had tried to begin. It was already late, but Andrew was more than prepared to make a case for himself when he turned up in the classroom empty handed the next day. Instead he had found an article about transfiguration gone >wrong and had become absolutely enthralled with the prospect of having an animated sugar bowl, like the one in the Sword and the Stone.
That had always been his favourite part.
He had turned a Herbology textbook into the sugar bowl, in as good a likeness as he could conjure, given that he hadn't seen the movie since he was at primary school, and was now looking vaguely through his charms book for something that would bring it to life.
Needless to say the ethical implications of such a project meant it wasn't readily included in his textbook, so he was thinking -- thinking rather more hard than he ever had on any academic subject -- on how to combine the spell for making it walk around with something else, to give it intelligence as well.
It was easy to make things move. It wasn't so easy to make them smart -- and he'd already tried that higitus figitus thing, after he'd checked there was definitely nobody watching.
He nudged the sugar bowl with the tip of his wand, and sighed.
