Who: Macnair twins Where: Mercy's bedroom When: late Wednesday evening What: Sitting and talking while riding it out. Warnings: YES, discussion of highly sensitive and potentially triggering subjects
Mercy was curled up in bed, under the covers, wearing the jeans and t-shirt she'd worn under her outer robes to work. She'd pretty much been putting her body through every bit of stress it would agree to over the last two weeks, and while she would have loved to blame her general exhaustion on that, no, she was just way more tired than normal, and she hated it. The actual basic pregnancy and children experience with all its attendant horrors aside, she had to be exhausted the whole time if she ever did it for real? If she was exhausted, she wouldn't be able to take care of herself or take control of her own care or make her needs known and that was the sort of thing that...well, here it was, wasn't it, that was the sort of thing that killed a woman in childbirth, like it had killed her mother. Mercy didn't want to die that way.
Of course, not that this was particularly pleasant either. She'd gotten home, made the potion, put on a pad, and taken it. The thing was, she'd expected it to feel roughly like a normal period, and it was hurting way more, like enough that she was a little scared by it. Not that she would ever admit that, because then Mal would insist she go to the hospital and tell Zeth and also possibly Dad and then everyone would know and it would become this huge drama it simply did not need to be. Birth control failed; she unfailed it. End of story and discussion. Still, it had sent her into a fetal position in her bed, a pillow with a Warming charm on it shoved deep into her lap and it was only doing a little. Finally, the door opened.
"Hey, shut it behind you," she said, looking up as her brother came in. Already, she felt a little better. Nothing was quite so bad with him around. She picked up her wand and recast the wards on the door from where she was, the ones that would keep out their father and the house elves, then set the wand down and reached out her hand towards Malcolm, making a grabby gesture to get him to come sit on the bed with her.
