With a hand held out, Matty waved lamely at Harry and tore her eyes away from the fire. They were both hiding from things that they could never escape that night and it was nice to have an almost stranger to share that feeling with. Gently swinging her feet to the ground, Matty sat upright and tried to give Harry a smile but she just figured that he probably wanted to smile about as much as she did (which was not very much at all).
For as many problems as she had, here she sat in front of this person, no, a public person of interest. The whole world was staring at him for answers, blaming their problems on him, waiting for him. How could he handle all of that pressure? It blew her mind, and in truth, she didn’t want to pity him for it, it just made her feel very sad for someone she would like to call her friend. Matty sighed and shook her head a little, trying to shake the thoughts out. “Are you ready for our walk?”
