As aesthetically pleasing as Harold thought the oncoming Winter could be, he admitted to himself that he disliked the cold itself. It got into his hands, making him feel fragile and clumsy. It was hard to finger any sort of instrument if your fingers were stiff from the cold. And the afternoon was proving to have a chill to it. So Harold's hands plunged deeply into his woolen black trench. He kept his fingers moving to keep the blood flowing. He was moving them along a phantom neck to the finger positions they would need to roughly correspond to play some of the orchestra's upcoming music.
He'd spent all morning in his pajamas tuning his violin, oiling it and in a final frustration, accepting that his G and D strings were hopelessly out of tune. They were old and worn. He'd need to write Diagon Alley for some new ones and hope he didn't fall too behind on practices. He'd been musing about an odd thing during the walk down. The guitar was such a Summer sound to him, even if it could play anything. The Violin was somehow a Winter instrument to him. Maybe because he often thought it was high, shrill and crisp compared to a guitar. More stark. No less beautiful but... different. And so he'd seen fit to approaching Madam Pince and Professor Flitwick about a position in the orchestra- though it had taken some practicing of what he'd say to them, and some prodding from his mates.
But that he had all quietly put away, looking on from the landing of the stairs at the raven-haired girl yonder. He'd gripped the bannister quietly and mulled against his lip. She was very pretty to him. Pretty and completely unavailable. Girls like Sally Anne Perks didn't go for or notice boys like Harold Dingle. So he quietly pushed aside his fancy as he had for the past month and donned the "friend hat." Harry was good at that. He had himself nicely convinced most of the time that being friends with Sally Anne would be better all around, for everyone. It lacked complications. Well, mostly.
He'd stepped down the stairs and patiently waited for her until she joined him on their walk outside. He'd debated hugging her- but only briefly. She looked like she needed one, and so he ended up slinging his arms around her gently. Then they walked, and they'd gone outside. They were rounding the Greenhouses which were foggy to the point of a palpable mist floating in the humid air within as they passed.
Harry stopped, looked at it and smiled with his gentle wonder. "What's your favorite kind of weather?" He decided to ask the pretty girl. His blue eyes cast in her direction, settling on her nose and mouth. Up until then, he'd mostly been watching the stonework under their feet.
