He certainly hadn't been expecting any compliments from Jack about his magic work, especially as he'd reviewed it, thought of Jack and then decided there was no way that it would be good enough for the boy but that it was too late for him to do anything about it.
He couldn't stop smiling! He knew that Jack had said it wasn't a real date, just a get together, talky thing, but at least he was spending time with his crush and that was more than he'd ever expected to get - it looked like a lot of what he'd thought had been pegged too low, happily .
When Jack sat Nico opened the basket to start laying the food out, the hot stuff charmed to keep it's warmth and the cool stuff still chilled. He hoped he'd done okay, like maybe he'd somehow magically chosen all of Jack's favourite foods and now Jack would realise they were soulmates and it would be a date and then Jack would be his boyfriend and then he would tell his family and his granddad would disown him but it would be worth it, totally worth it!
Or maybe not.
He looked up from his plattering and if he'd been a dog his ears would have pricked up when Jack asked him a question. "They're okay, just having a bit of trouble with Transfiguration." he glared at the blanket a little. "Classes are harder than I thought they'd be in fourth year though." Christmas was a bit of an issue that he wasn't trying to deal with it at the moment - it would be his first without his mother. "How about you, good classes? It'll be nice to break for hols."
