Zoe brushed a strand of pinkish red hair out of her eyes and tucked it behind her ear as she continued to chew on the end of her pencil. On her lap her sketch book laid open and the drawing in front of her was only half finished, still her eyes wandered about the Great Hall. Several students were talking quietly among themselves, a group of Hufflepuff girls were giggling over something to her right, and a set of Gryffindor boys were busying themselves with Wizards Chess. Zoe was lying if she said she didn't like to watch people. There was something calming about it and there was no limit to the things you could learn about people just from observing. She should have been translating her Ancient Runes text or figuring out her Arithmancy problems but she didn't want to. It was hard to think when there was so much going on in the world.
Why did she still read the Prophet? She wasn't sure but Zoe figured it had to with the fact that she wanted to stay informed rather than be ignorant. In this case she wasn't sure ignorance was bliss. After a long moment of consideration, she shaded in the sunbeams on her drawing. It was an abstract version of the enchanted ceiling. A mixture of sunbeams and a celestial night sky. That was the great thing about magic, almost anything was possible. It was kind of like art. You could do whatever you wanted when you were in control of the pencil.
"Can you hand me that shading pencil, please?" Zoe asked the person that settled down next to her. She didn't want to lose her train of thought before she could add one more detail to her drawing. It was something that relaxed her. "Did you read the Prophet?" Zoe asked them honestly. "I doubt the Ministry has the control here that they are saying they do. Dumbledore wouldn't allow it..." Finally she looked up to see who exactly had sat next to her.
