Colin had tried to think of things to say to Harry, thought of things to say to anyone really, but they sounded lame. If he were being honest? He was terrified, more so now than ever before. The Ministry, though they knew it to be corrupt, had fallen and there was little that they could do about it. He knew that the school was safe, they had Dumbledore and McGonagall, they had the DA and all the other professors to keep them safe, but Colin couldn’t help but worry. Soon, everything about being a muggleborn would be dangerous, and there was nothing he could do about it. Well, except for do his best to keep Dennis safe. Dennis and Poppy and Jack.
Colin couldn’t say how long he’d been staring at the canopy of his bed, he could hear the light breathing of one of his other dorm mates, and was slightly envious at how they could sleep at a time like this. His eyes were tired and heavy, but his mind kept racing and fears kept crawling into his head. And so, after tossing around for the nth time, and hearing what sounded like Jack getting out of his bed and heading towards the stairs, Colin climbed out of his bed toward the common room. He was unsurprised to see a few people already gathered.
He didn’t say anything as he approached them, just took a seat wedged between Dennis and Jack, as if to assure himself they were both perfectly safe.
