Of all the gin joints, in all the towns, in all the world,
Their impromptu study session and viewing of Citizen Kane had put the idea into Oakden's mind to invite Percy back again to share another classic film with him. This time, it was Casablanca. It was a movie that Oaken personally liked far better than Citizen Kane, but then besides The Third Man, he'd never been all that enamoured with the great Orson Welles (though, he did rather like his name.)
Oakden's flat was a large, open section of a former turn of the century industrial building that had been modified into apartments. The ceiling was high enough that there was actually a staircase that lead up to a second level where his bed was, but everything else--kitchen, dining room and the like--were all part of the large box room. It could have been a cold looking place, simply because architecture-wise it was little more than a painted cement box with a wooden second floor added in, but Oakden made it work.
One wall was completely dedicated to a large wine rack that had every space filled with some interesting bottle that he'd collected, or that he'd bottled himself. In front of that there was a music stand and desk with papers and music books scattered about. There was a designated 'living room' section where, instead of a television, he magically projected films onto the large white, windowless wall. A semi-wall separated the living room from an elegant and well-stocked kitchen, and there was enough art on the walls and interesting carpets on the floor to make the place look like a home--and an interesting one.
Percy had already taken a seat on the sofa as Oakden brought over a plate of cheese (brie), melba toast and grapes to have with a bottle of wine or two from his vineyard. Whenever he had company over there was always wine and he never sent them away without a bottle or two to keep them warm, and keep them coming back.
"I suppose we should be having gin." Hobday drawled, looking at the wine bottle's label a moment before pouring the deep red into Weasley's glass. "But, as un-English as it might seem, I've never had much of a taste for it."
