The last location they'd used had proven to be secure enough, so Lee decided to use it again. He'd switch off, next show, but might as well know what works for now. He set up the equipment and charms and sat down, sorting through his notes a last time to make sure they were organized, taking a swig from the waterbottle on hand, and then switching the broadcast on. "Hello, and welcome to the second broadcast of Phoenix Radio, your only source for the truth about You-Know-Who, events in the wizarding world, and charming hosts, all in one convenient show. I'm your host, River, and tonight I'll be sharing the time with a guest host or two. And let me tell you lot, you're missing out, since they don't have the sort of face meant only for radio, if you know what I mean, but I'll watch on your behalf, you have my promise."
"First off, this last weekend was Hogsmeade weekend for the fresh-faced students at Hogwarts, and I'm sure even the dimmer sorts of Slytherins noticed that the post office was closed for business. Official word is that it's being cleaned and updated, but the real reason is some nasty surprises traveling by mail. Aurors are searching existing mail, and where Aurors can search, chances are someone less wholesome might stick their nose in too. So be careful what you send out, practice those privating charms, and be wary of any unmarked and unexpected parcels. In addition, we've heard that there were Death Eaters spotted at Hogsmeade, so remember that you're safe at Hogwarts, but the rest of the world is dicey, mates."
Lee flipped note cards, frowning and crossing something off quickly with the pen in his hand before continuing. "Next up is word from a source at the Prophet that things are even fishier than they seem. We all know that Skeeter works for the Prophet, and that she's made a career of printing up the kind of lies that usually only see the inside of a tabloid, but seems that's just the tip of an iceberg. Our source says they're sure that some of the younger reporters who've tried to file actual facts have not only been told the Prophet doesn't print those sorts of things, but they've had the actual memories obliviated so they don't even remember trying. That's right, folks, the Prophet cares enough about its readers to obliviate information they need right out of its own staff's head. One more reason why the Quibbler's underrated, I say. Sure they printed a story about a new species of miniature unicorn that eats only asparagus and can only be seen by garden gnomes, but they haven't erased anyone's memory that I know of, so I'm renewing my subscription."
"Sad follow-up from our last show, but turns out that Tottie Abbot was indeed murdered. Our sources say it's as-of-yet unsolved, but that all the signs point to Death Eater involvement. We've also turned up three more muggle deaths and two muggleborns. The Dark Mark was seen in the neighborhood, and a witness claims to have seen someone in a mask. The witness wasn't wearing trousers, which seemed to be a tip to the muggle police that he might not be the most reliable of witnesses, but combined with the Dark Mark, your friendly hosts things he might be a nutter, but was probably not wrong on this one. Family and friends of the victims, you have our sympathy, and our sincere hope that someone catches the people responsible before they hurt anyone else."
Lee took another quick sip of water before going on. "Ollivander's remains closed for business. I'm betting there's a healthy market in foreign wands going on right now. If I were a less ruggedly handsome man of integrity, I would invest in wand imports. And if I had money to invest, but that's neight here nor there and it's the qualify of my character that matters. The good word though is that Ollivander has been found and is safe and alive. No more details available, for the old man's safety and because no one can be buggered to tell me anything, but that doesn't stop people from making things up. I'm betting the Prophet turns up with a nice article about him being on holiday in the States with a tarty cheerleader, soon. Mark my words, dear listeners. Her name will be Amanda, and she'll be as fictional as Severus' Snape's personal hygiene."
Lee looked over at Lily and flashed her a smile and a thumbs up, then went on. "And now listeners, I'm going to hand you over to a couple of guests making their first appearance at the show. Stay tuned until afterward, when your faithful host will give you the password for next show."
Lee shut off his own microphone and turned on the guest one, holding up three fingers, and then counting off for Lily to begin.
A nervous shuffle of papers and then a definitely female voice, sounding only faintly nervous came across the wireless. "Hello everyone, this is... well, we'll say this is Robin, as River has started to set a precedence with the 'R' names and today I'm bringing you some helpful Healer on the go hints. Being prepared for a disaster is the first step in making sure that disaster doesn't happen. First and most obviously, keep ready healing potions on hand, in a general variety, for everything from scrapes and bruises, broken bones and bloody hexes. Making sure you keep your basic potion stock up is important too, you never know when you're going to be called on to make something specific and finicky. If you're caught out and away from that handy stock of potions though, there are some basic charms and even Muggle first aid you can use that will get you through until you can get to some place better stocked." The more Robin talked and warmed up to the subject, the more confident she sounded. She went on to talk about basic patching charms to repair minor damage, clot bleeding, and described some basic Muggle first aid to set bones, bind wounds, and prevent infection. "I've run my mouth about as long as I can for today however, thanks for having me on River. Remember everyone, be safe, and smart, and watch out for your loved ones. You're not alone out there."
Lee switched the sound back to himself. "And thank you, Robin, we'll be having you back again, I'm sure. And one more handoff, stick with us." Lee counted down for Remus, and switched the sound over for the next segment.
Remus looked at Lily and sighed, but then leaned in toward the microphone. "Let's call me Romulus, shall we?" he looked to Lee for approval at that, and felt like an idiot, but went on. "I want to remind students at Hogwarts to be on your guard. Not in the way of the constant vigilance that you mocked with Moody, but with real vigilance. Some of you might have noticed that Madam Pomfrey has not been seen since Hogsmeade weekend. This is because she was abducted. Be sure that your Professors and the Headmaster are doing all the can, and that those of us outside of Hogwarts are doing all we can. But she is not on holiday, and whatever the Prophet may soon say about her, she will not be relocating to the Isle of Muck. Professor Babbling was murdered, her son was murdered, and while you are safe at Hogwarts there is a growing threat here that you cannot ignore. Professor Dumbledore has his reasons for staying silent, for focusing his attention on the attempt at making sure the darkness does not seep in to Hogwarts. But it is threatening, and while you go about your school year, remember that beyond your Quidditch and studies, He is moving." Remus sighed again, and he looked sidelong at Lily before he added, "Give your support to Harry Potter, to his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Keep Dumbledore's Army ready in the case that it is needed. And stay on your guard."
Lee nodded to Remus to show when he was clear of the charms and picked up where he left off. "You heard it here, folks. We here at Phoenix Radio send out best wishes for Madam Pomfrey's safe return. Thanks for that, Romulus, and Robin. That's all for this show. Listen for us next time, when the password will be gillyweed, and we'll be adding another couple of guest hosts to our stable and hearing from a Ministry insider. Until then, this had been Phoenix Radio, and I'm River, your dashing host."
Lee switched off the charms and stood, stretching and then starting to break down the equipment for packing back up. "Thanks, you were both great," he told Lily and Remus with a smile.
