No, Alex wanted to shout back, he couldn't be, because he wasn't worth it, he couldn't apologise and Jimmy had Dennis now who did more than fill that gap for Jimmy because Alex was never filling a gap he was just a parasite on Jimmy's good heart and generous forgiving nature.
He wanted to but he didn't get the chance. He watched Jimmy pull his wand out but never thought that it would be a spell purposely aimed at him. He expected to see him shrink the trunk or slam the door in his face or even hit something behind him, he didn't know, but a spell aimed directly for him was the last thing he expected.
It hit a still staring Alex and he fell to the floor unconscious. It didn't remove the look of bewilderment though, the last thing to go through his head before it did because he still couldn't believe that Jimmy would have aimed one at him. It was, strangely, the youngest, most sincere expression that Alex had worn apart from now and then when he slept, and it was sad that it just made him look lost.
