Audrey first nodded in agreement with Verity's comment, but she didn't speak, feeling that nervous anxious feeling creeping up her spine. She couldn't speak, and when Verity offered her water, Audrey nodded, "Yes please, water would be lovely, thank you."
She stood at the counter, trying not to show her shock, feeling foolish for not realizing sooner that Toad would have someone new in his life.
And Audrey realized that she did not want to be here when the pretty happy girl came back. With her magazine in hand, Audrey turned, crossed the floor, and slipped out of the animated shop onto the street of Diagon Alley. She moved a few steps, to stand infront of the window display but when she caught a glance of the woman returning to the counter, Audrey hurried forward into the evening, determined to put distance between her and the WWW shop.
It was stupid, and perhaps a bit cowardly, but Audrey had not been prepared for it; she should have braced herself for all of the possibilities. But until she could sit down with Toad and talk about things, she would not know and as fate would have it, Audrey was bound to intersect with his life as he was to intersect with hers.
