Toad watched her hands as she settled beside him, grateful he at least had Harley for the distraction. He nodded as she mentioned she was glad and again at her request to see it sometime. He started to tell her to come by anytime, that he was always there, but the words died in this throat. Instead he just smiled weakly and nodded again.
His gaze jerked back over to at the sound of his name and he felt horrible for her, watching the emotions pass over her face. And as much as he wanted to berate himself for feeling bad for her when his own head was spinning away from him. "It's cos she won't stop eating biscuits," he said, finding it easier to focus on Harley than what was actually happening and ruffled the dog's head.
