Phoenix Radio Who: Lee Jordan When: Sunday, 10/11/97 Where: Over the Wireless, broadcasting from an Order-approved open spot. What: Phoenix Radio! Rating: PG Open/Closed: Closed (Feel free to post reactions in comments. Lee sent out Owls to random Order/DA people with notes to spread the word, so if your character would have heard from a friend, then feel free to assume they did.)
Between the test broadcast at the show, Lee and the twins had tweaked a few of the charms, and he was reasonably sure that tonight was going to work. He'd gotten together notes all week, and talked to the Order to pick up any stories that should be being told, and hadn't been. He'd gotten a few people who mentioned wanting to do guest segments, but for the first show, he thought he'd probably best keep it simple. No one might be listening anyway, other than a few Order and DA sorts.
He switched on the microphone, activated the broadcasting charms and put on his headphones, waiting for the faint feedback sound that said it was working before starting to speak. "Hello to any listeners out there in Wireless Land. Welcome to the first ever broadcast of Phoenix Radio. We're here to tell the truth the Prophet and the Ministry aren't, so pay attention, tell your friends, and remember to tip your waitresses. I'm your host, River, and we've got a few things to cover tonight."
"First and foremost, we'd like to send out our condolences to friends and admirers of former Hogwarts Professor, Bathsheba Babbling, who is deceased, contrary to Prophet reports claiming she nipped off for retirement to an island with a funny name. The Professor was most definitely the victim of an assault."
"Which brings us to our second item - she was assaulted by Death Eaters. Now I know there's people out there who still like to close their eyes, cross their fingers and pretend You-Know-Who is a thing of the past, but that's just not the case. He's alive, he's kicking, and he's a barmy bloody bastard with loads of equally unpleasant friends who jump when he says jump. You should know that. You should be aware of it, and you should be careful. Muggleborns aren't the only ones at risk, anyone they see as a traitor to the cause can be a victim."
"We've also go some missing person reports likely tied in to Death Eater activity. The Prophet mentioned Ollivander's closing down shop, but Phoenix sources say he was abducted, right out of his shop. Rumor is the old man put up a good fight, too. Good on you, Ollivander. Here's hoping we find you and give you a hand. Also reported missing is Tottie Abbot, (name), and (name), all of whom show signs of possible Death Eater abduction or assault. If any of you all hear this, we're looking for you, and we're trying to get you help, all right? So hang in there."
Lee flipped to the next card. "Now with all this happening, the question is - why do we need this show to tell us about it? Well, firstly your host is loads better looking than anyone at the Prophet. I know you can't see me, but trust me, it's a fact. Secondly - the Ministry isn't telling the truth, and the Prophet and the Wireless proper is heaving up the lies they're fed like cats with a hairball. So I'm all you've got, ladies and gents. Any proof we have, we'll tell you about. That's a River guarantee, you can take it to the bank. You won't GET anything for it, since Rivers are poor as churchmice, but you could take it anyway."
"So what does this mean for you, Joe-on-The-Streets? Keep your head up. Brush up on those defensive spells, don't go anywhere alone, and remember that everything you read is approved by the blokes at the Ministry, some of whom just might have a snake and skull on their arm. So take it with a grain of salt."
"Next show, our password will be 'lemondrop', and we might have a few friends about to give you some tips. Until then, this has been Phoenix Radio, and I'm River, your dashing host." Lee waited for a moment, and then switched off the equipment, shutting down the broadcast and starting to pack up and shrink everything back down for transport.
