It had been almost exactly a week since their first kiss, since that wonderful moment when Aud first pressed her lips against Fi’s. They hadn’t talked much, just shared stolen little moments, quick kisses during the day and longer, lingering snogs at night before falling asleep in each other’s arms. Aud wasn’t quite sure what it meant for them, what it meant for her. She’d so far kept from saying anything, asking Fi to define their relationship; she was mostly scared of what would be said.
So far, everything had been fine, nothing had changed, aside from the lovely kisses they’d shared and the amazing way Fi felt against her. Though Aud didn’t want to say anything, she also couldn’t help the thoughts from keeping her awake as she lay there in Fi’s arms, the moonlight streaming in through the large window opposite her bed.
Shifting in her sleep, Fi’s head turned and brushed against the top of Aud’s head. She roused enough to give a sleepy, unintelligble mumble and nuzzled her gently.
Aud let out a little noise, snuggling closer against Fi. Even though she was lonely and couldn’t sleep, she didn’t want to wake the other girl up. “Go back to sleep, Fi,” she murmured, softly.
“M’up,” she mumbled, blinking a few times as she looked around at the dark, moonlit room. “Why’re you up?” she asked after a moment when everything around started clicking into place.
“Couldn’t sleep,” she responded, curling against Fi, tapping her head. “Lots of thoughts up here, school tomorrow and all, you know.” She quirked her lips to the side and snuggled closer against the other girl.
“S’okay,” she yawned, pressing a couple of quick kisses to Aud’s head and grinned at her actions. “At least you don’t have OWLs and I’ll be there!”
“You will be,” Aud smiled happily, tilting her head back and kissing the corner of Fi’s mouth, the only part of the other girl she could comfortably reach. “I like it here, though.”
“I like it here too,” Fi said, opening her eyes again when she realised they’d closed at some point, putting her in the dangerous position of getting closer to falling back asleep. She reached up with her other arm and draped it over Aud, patting her lightly. “Wish I could stay like this too.”
Though Aud didn’t want to say it, the words were coming out of her mouth before she could stop them, all quiet and soft. “What about when we go back?”
Fi’s brow furrowed only slightly, awake enough to carry on a conversation but not quite alert enough to pick up on Aud’s real meaning. “What d’you mean?”
“What’ll happen?” she asked, suddenly nervous, pressing against Fi, her heart in her throat. She wasn’t nervous that their friendship would be ruined by this... whatever it was. She had faith in Fiona, that while things might be awkward for a bit, they’d end up alright. But she didn’t just want to be alright. She wanted more... but she didn’t know what or how to even express that.
“What will happen with wh-” she started again, cutting herself off when she pressed closer and pieces started falling into place. She didn’t know what to tell Audrey but she knew what she wanted and snuggled closer to her, thinking about how she could express her hope that school wouldn’t stop whatever it was they had. “What...do you want to happen?” She asked, nerves making her suddenly wide awake.
Aud shrugged, resting her head comfortably on Fi’s chest, listening to her heartbeat. “Dunno,” she responded, after a moment, genuinely unsure what exactly she wanted to happen. “I like this.”
“Me too,” Fi agreed, nodding. “It doesn’t...school doesn’t have to change anything, does it?” She asked, biting her lip nervously as she waited a response. She wasn’t sure how she felt about everything, sharing what they had or not or even what it was that they had, she just knew she didn’t want it to go away.
Shaking her head, Aud stroked her fingers idly along Fi’s stomach as she thought, shaking her head again. “Not if we don’t want it to,” she responded. Though there was a part of her that wanted to be Fi’s girlfriend, the rest of her didn’t want to make changes, didn’t want to mess with something that was working so well, albeit so shortly.
“I don’t,” Fi said softly, smiling to herself at the soft, not quite too ticklish feeling of Aud’s fingers, giving a slight shiver. “I like this, I like you,” she said, stating the obvious.
At Fi’s words, Aud grinned widely, moving and raising her head, kissing Fi gently. “I do too. Right here is my new favourite place to be.”
Smiling to herself, Fi kissed Aud back and squeezed her lightly before another yawn escaped. She thought about asking what it meant, their admissions, their agreement, but failed in the face of her nerves. Instead she gave Audrey another soft kiss.
Matching Fi’s yawn, Aud snuggled back against her friend, loving the way it felt to have the other girl’s arms around her. A long moment passed, Aud’s nerves faded and allowing her exhaustion to take hold. “‘m happy,” she said after a bit, her words slurred with sleep.
Grinning to herself, Fiona nodded and let out a happy sigh. “S’good,” she said, turning her head to press her face against Audrey’s hair. “You’re comfy too,” she mumbled, giggling once to herself as silly, sleepy thoughts ran through her head. She kissed Aud’s head again before sleep overtook her.
