Comfort, blankets, softness. These things should be good things. For Chell, they weren't. She all but scrambled out of the bed when she woke up, her breath quick out of fear. She'd been here before. But she'd gotten out. There had been fresh air. Sunshine. The sound of life around her and the smell of the wheat. There hadn't been another room. She didn't remember being asleep, didn't remember falling unconscious like she'd done before. But staring at the bed didn't make it disappear. It just stood there. Waiting. But this time she wouldn't go back to it. Not even if anyone made her. She rose from the ground, shaking a little but soon it left. Determination set in. She'd escaped twice now. She could escape again. She adjusted the boots and the, somewhat ragged, jumpsuit she wore and settled the bits of wheat in her pocket. She couldn't spot the Companion Cube, which made her frown, but maybe GLaDOS or Wheatley had taken it away. They did that. She was already moving when the image popped up. Before, thing like that hadn't worked. The screens at the facility just kept repeating the same things, or just didn't turn on. Even this one was just a voice. Another familiar thing. But it didn't sound like Wheatley, or GLaDOS. But that didn't mean anything. She narrowed her eyes at it. Can't leave. She'd heard this before. But the next part about the tests didn't come like she expected. She waited, but nothing was repeated. No taunts came. She frowned but then continued walking to the door. At least this one opened. Once she was out of it she looked around. Nothing looked familiar, but it hadn't the first time either. If this was another section of the facility, it had survived better then the others. The openness of it made her pause, but not for long. Soon she made her way out of the hall, intent on finding her way out of this place. At first, the different hall made her pause but soon enough she was walking, then running. The boots, designed to give her extra leverage, aided with that. They even helped her when she found a staircase that she vaulted, to land on her feet on the floor a few levels below without really any damage. She may not have the Portal Gun, but figuring out a quicker path from A to B was still something she knew. Something, if anything, she was good at. Another few of the vaults brought her to a door that said exit. Such things were never really true. They were always some sort of traps, or led to another area of the facility. But she clenched her jaw, and had no other options. So she opened the door expecting another section of the facility. A trap. Nerve gas. Instead there was noise and lights and the glare of sun. Wincing she stumbled forward and into the sidewalk. She turned around on it, trying to see everything. Was she out? Was this a trick? She didn't know. She was also too busy looking up and around she didn't notice anyone else until she collided and fell over. While she could have caught herself she instead just landed and looked up. Whatever was going on, it confused the heck out of her. |
