Pepper needed a break from being on her feet so she left Morgan with May for a few minutes and went in search of coffee. She found it at a little sweet shop and ordered the coffee and cider donuts. She waited outside at the pick up window where she spotted Peter. “Hey, Peter! Honey! Over here!” She waved her bonus son over.
Peter had been having fun exploring all of the options. He had that FOMO feeling, though, like he wouldn't have time to get everything done. It was common for him, especially around holidays, so he'd been trying to hang out with as many people as he could. So when Mrs. Stark called him, he jogged over, caramel apple in hand. "Hi, Mrs. S!", he said cheerfully, licking some caramel from the stick before it could hit his hand. "Are you having fun? Where's Mini Me?"
Pepper immediately kissed his cheek and handed him a napkin. “So much fun,” she replied. “But my feet are hurting!” She laughed. “I needed a break. She’s with May. I’m bringing them back donuts.”
"And you weren't bringing me any?" Peter feigned a gasp, clutching his chest. "This is because I made the horrible mistake of becoming a grownup, isn't it?"
Pepper laughed and nudged him on the shoulder. “You’ll always be our kid too,” she told him. “You’ve been bouncing around too much. I didn’t know where you were.” She ran a hand through her hair and asked, “What’s your favorite thing so far?”
"Petting zoo," Peter confirmed, absolutely doing nothing to back up his claim about being an adult now. "I got to pet an alpaca. I now need to be talked out of buying one. Or twelve. We could sheer them for wool and make back my investment." The smirk on his face implied he was kidding but also, who was to say?
“You are Tony’s boy alright,” Pepper said with a grin. “And, no, we are not buying any more alpacas. Gerald is enough.”
"Ah, but I'm an adult," he reminded her, blushing a little as he always did when he was referred to as "Tony’s". "With adult money. You can't stop me. Twenty alpacas!"
Pepper rolled her eyes. “Have fun shoveling all that poop, sweetheart.” She reached over to push some hair off his forehead. “Looking forward to the holidays? You know I already started Christmas shopping.”
Peter wrinkled his nose as she adjusted his hair. Maybe she'd learned it from May, it was such a her thing to do. "I'm looking forward to gingerbread. And lights. And pretending we live somewhere where it might snow someday." Overall he enjoyed San Francisco. Particularly the people he loved being alive and all. But there were a lot of things he missed about New York and the weather was one of them.
“Hey, we could always visit NYC for a few days,” Pepper pointed out. “See the tree and the windows. How does that sound?”
He didn't know why that never occurred to him. They just didn't go back much, especially after the time he and Ned got trapped with a portal gone bad. "Yeah? Could be fun. We could take the whole family. I'd love to show Dee and Dr. B and Lyra and Morgan our old neighborhood and all the fun spots in the city."
“I bet they’d love it too,” Pepper replied, excited about the prospect of visiting NYC during the holidays. “We’ll plan it when we get home, okay?” She was sure Tony would agree. He was mush for the kids.
Well now he was even bouncier, and it had nothing to do with the amount of sugar he'd consumed. "We can watch the parade at Thanksgiving, get everyone all hyped for it." There were perks to giving the finger to the local economy and one was he could spoil his family. Maybe he'd even get May and Dr. B a suite for their wedding gift and offer to take Lyra. Now his head really was spinning with ideas. "We make the best team!" He told his sorta-mom.
Pepper hugged Peter; she could see how excited he was, which made her happy. She loved seeing the children happy. “We do,” she agreed as her name was called. “Looks like I’m up. Want to come with me or do you have plans?”
"I'll come with for a bit! I need to pester the munchkin. I promised her a carved Iron Man pumpkin and I gotta keep promises you know." How he was going to pull that off with his very limited carving abilities, he didn't know. But it could be fun
