Julie was absolutely not freaking out. She’d handled ghosts. SInging ghosts who no one but could see but her unless they were singing with her. She could handle this.
…actually, she could have handled having those ghosts with her right about now. They might have helped a little.
And where were they, anyway? She’d hugged them. A for real, proper hug. She’d felt Luke’s hands on her face. The weight of Alex’s and Reggie’s arms around the back of her head. It had been real. Maybe they had crossed over after that?
Selfishly, she hoped not. Wherever she was facing now, she needed them.
She’d had the explanation from the government lady, and the car ride over here to attempt to rationalize this a little bit. But she was arriving now, and there wasn’t much to rationalize. She was meant to find a lady named Yelena. Apparently she was going to be her guardian. Julie had mixed feelings about anyone else taking her dad’s place but that seemed like something to worry about later.
Getting out of the car, she pulled her hoodie back up over her shoulder where it had slipped, squaring her shoulders and facing the building. Taking a breath, she pushed open the doors and walked into the lobby.
