Log: Molly & Daisy

Daisy Johnson & Molly Hayes
Rating TBD • April 10th,
Daisy's Office and then a Park
Molly skips school because Tommy is a butthead.
Daisy tracks her phone and finds her in a park.

Daisy groaned out loud when her phone lit up with an incoming call. She recognized the number as belonging to the school. Molly's School. "Shit." She answered it on the second or third ring, resisting the urge to swear again when the voice on the other line explained why they were calling, but she allowed herself a quiet dammit once she'd hung up.

Sighing, she texted Pepper quickly. Molly skipped school. I'm going out to look for her. Look for her was overstating it, because she was already pulling up the app to track her ward's phone the instant she hit send on her message to her boss. A part of Daisy might have felt a little guilty for the digital stalking, but in her defense, she only used it in situations like this. A relieved sign passed her lips as Molly's phone was quickly found. There hadn't been an alert, but that didn't mean it hadn't crossed her mind that Molly could have just disappeared like so many others had.

Throwing up a quick auto-reply on her work email, Daisy grabbed her things and left her office. She was lucky to have a cool boss who wouldn't mind her taking off for this. Daisy knew Molly could take care of herself, but she also knew she wasn't likely to just skip school on a random whim and she wanted to make sure she was okay. Her kid might be tougher than a lot of the rest of them put together, but that didn't mean she couldn't be hurt, maybe in ways her superpower couldn't help.

It didn't take her long to find Molly, thanks to the powers of modern technology. Daisy walked toward the girl, trying to affect a stern expression as she folded her arms across her chest. "I know it's a beautiful day," she commented - yes, that was sarcasm, "but that's not a great reason to not go to school, Molls," she said once she was just a couple of feet away.

Molly had run. She'd been doing so well in all the time she had been in San Francisco with only the occasional bouts of actual-trouble (not counting the magical mishaps) but she was still a traumatized child who did her best on a daily basis.

She had found the park gazebo, a shelter from the unrelenting storm, and had taken up refuge there. Her backpack sat nearby but Molly just sat on the cement with her knees hugged against her chest. She didn't lift her head but her eyes moved to watch Daisy's approach. At the (admittedly gentle) scold, Molly fell back into the gut-wrenching sobs that she thought she'd gotten out. Molly buried her face into her knees. She hadn't wanted to get into trouble - what kid did? - but Molly had needed the space and her emotions had been too high to remember to contact Daisy first. Would Daisy have even understood? Molly liked to think so. But she'd also thought Tommy wouldn't be mean. Or act like she was being mean when it was his stupid fault that they'd fallen and gotten wet in the first place. And then to act like she was some kind of hideous monster? It was just too much.

It was frustrating, sometimes, when Molly took off without telling her. She didn't do it that often and Daisy really thought she was an amazing kid, but she was also still a kid and Daisy worried when she didn't know where she was. Was tracking her phone and invasion of privacy? Hell, yeah, but she'd rather Molly be pissed at her and safe than end up hurt out here.

She was here, prepared for maybe a little bit of a lecture, but it was hard stay anything resembling mad when Molly's face looked like that. Without another word, she closed the distance between them, reaching out to lightly touch Molly's arms.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm not mad, promise." She had seated herself next to Molly, ready to offer whatever her kid needed. "Do you want to talk about whatever happened?"

Molly picked up her head but her sobs had turned to the sort of hiccoughing that made talking difficult as her breathing hitched over and over. It made her tummy hurt. She leaned into Daisy, though, desperate for any sort of warmth or comfort the woman could bring even while as wet as she was.

"T-Tommy is m-m-mean," Molly said, her head shaking with the effort of getting the words out as her body still refused to let her calm down enough to speak properly. Molly turned fully and buried her face into her guardian, crying anew but it was quieter at least. The fear of Daisy being mad was no longer there because she'd said as much as Molly had to trust that. Daisy wasn't going to just toss her out the door because of this. "I h-hate the r-r--" why were R sounds so dang hard? "stupid weather."
