Log: Cassie & America WHO: Cassie & America WHAT: A Valentine's Date WHEN: Backdated to the Valentine's party. WHERE: The Marigold RATING: Low STATUS: Completed via GDOC.
Getting ready for the Valentines party felt a lot like being back in the teenage drama that she had been in earlier in the month. There were girls talking about dresses and makeup and things that America only vaguely understood. But this time, it was more exciting. She was going to go with Cassie— well, okay, everyone else in the station was going to be there too, but she was going to be spending time with Cassie, which she enjoyed.
Emily helped her with her hair, and she traveled over to the venue with her family. Her dress wasn’t exactly valentines, but it looked cute, a black dress with polka dots that fell to her knees and stockings.
She finally spotted Cassie and grinned, moving up to her side. “Hey, Cass.” She grinned.
Cassie wasn’t at all used to “dating”, but it felt nice to have someone want to spend time alone with her. She really liked America and she was open to exploring their options, whatever those were. She wore a short black and white dress and held the corsage of red and white roses she bought for America. “These are for you,” she said, handing the flowers to America in their plastic container. “I’m glad they match!”
America grinned broadly as she took the plastic container and opened it gently. She looked at the roses with a smile, “They are perfect, I love them.” She told Cassie. It could have been nearly anything, honestly, as long as it was from Cassie.
In turn, America gave Cassie the flowery wristlet corsage. She had agonized about what to bring Cassie, there were more different types of pink flowers than she knew were possible. She had been looking for the perfect thing, and hadn’t found anything, until Strange had found the exact thing she’d been looking for. It was small pink buds with write ribbons that seemed to shimmer.
“What should we do first.” She chuckled.
“It is so pretty!” Cassie squealed. “Thank you!” She shot her a smile and gestured to the food area. “Food first? Then dancing?” The food assortment was impressive; Cassie couldn’t help wondering if it was an apology for the mayhem of the earlier weeks.
“I will never say no to free food,” Though honestly, America was mostly eyeing the pink and red cupcakes and other sweets that were at the far end of the assortment of food. She took Cassie’s hand, gently, as they made their way to the food. America’s eyes looked out for friends as well, to wave at them as they passed. “You’re dress is really, really pretty. You could be a ballerina or something.”
Cassie squeezed America’s hand as they walked toward the table. She too smiled and nodded at a few friends. “Thanks, you look really pretty too.” Cassie had chosen her dress carefully and was happy that America liked it.
Once at the table, Cassie piled her plate with chicken fingers, jalapeno poppers, and french fries. “Annnnd dessert,” she said as she picked up a cupcake and handed it to America.
“It took a couple of people to pick out a dress that looked good,” America chuckled. She tended to live in the simple things, and being on the run didn’t exactly lend itself to too many dresses. She did a tiny little spin just enough to make the skirt flair up slightly.
She too loaded up her plate. America is and always would be an eater, she loved pigging out. French fries and other random appetizers on her plate, grinning as Cassie handed her a cupcake. “I’m that obvious, huh?” She said with a wink. “What good is a party if you don't leave with a sugar high.”
Cassie giggled. “I wanted one too, don’t worry. We’ll both be hyped up. We need the energy to dance.” She took a bite of her food and then nodded toward a nearby table. “Before I spill it all on myself.”
America grinned and nodded. She rushed over to the table to put her things down, before moving to pull out a chair for Cassie. She didn’t have a lot of experience on dates or anything like that, but she did watch a handful of romantic movies… and that meant something, right?
“After you,” She said, before taking her own seat near her. “I’m… not sure about the dancing part, but as long as you aren’t too easily embarrassed, I’m sure it’ll be fine. I have a little rhythm.”
“We’ll just have fun,” Cassie replied. “If we make fools of ourselves, that’s just half the fun!” After a few minutes of eating, she glanced back at America and said, “Want to try it now?”
“Can’t be worse than the ice skating adventure, right?” America grinned, finishing her last bit of cupcake. “Come on, lets do it.” She grinned, and held out her hand to her.
Cassie accepted America’s hand and grinned as they joined the others on the dance floor. “Thanks for asking me, America! This has been so fun tonight.”
“I’m… glad that you said yes,” America smiled softly, a little nervously. “I’m also glad that this time you know that it’s a date.” She chuckled.
Cassie laughed too. “So do I,” she admitted. “This is nice.” Going on a date with a friend felt comfortable and familiar. She had to yell a little to be heard over the music, which made her giggle more.
Cassie’s laugh made America laugh too. She was still nervous, of course, but being on a date with Cassie seemed right. She was pretty and funny and fun. It was… it felt normal for once, and America wasn’t quite used to feeling normal. She grinned, and moved to the music, grabbing Cassie’s hand and spinning her around playfully. “I’m having a really, really good time.”
