Who: Dee Green and Daisy Johnson What: Seeing Bats Where: Outside near the station When: BACKDATED -- Friday Night
School hadn’t been as bad as Dee thought it might have been. Peter Parker was a pretty cool kid to hang out with, and he generally kept her company at lunch. James Rogers hadn’t been bad either. They’d basically formed their own little lunch table. Plus, Dr. B and THE NUTTING WINTER SOLDIER were her teachers. And the others weren’t bad. The PE teacher was at least pretty to look at, and she was actually surprisingly athletic, so she never had a hard time there.
On top of that, Dee got a job! She’d never actually had one before, because she’d always considered heroing and patrolling the streets at night with Kamala her job. Besides, her parents took care of her needs as all good parents should. But here was different. Her parents weren’t here, and Dr. B had to take care of her--- he didn’t exactly ask for a kid like her, and so she thought it would ease things a little if she pulled her weight.
She’d gone out to celebrate--- the cupcake factory wasn’t a terrible bus ride from the apartments and who could turn down a cupcake?! She had finished eating the over sized and over sugared treat as she rounded the corner. Tippy gestured wildly to the sky, and it still took another moment or two before Dee noticed the entirely out of place bats.
And then she was in the middle of the ocean. She had no idea how she had gotten there, she had been standing on the street just a moment ago. She flailed wildly, as wave after wave crashed upon her. She felt heavy. She was sinking. She struggled, uncoordinated to keep her head above water. She tried screaming but the water muted her. Who would hear her anyway? She was alone. The last thing she remembered as she sank was the water blackening around her and her vision tunneling out.
Suddenly, she was back on the sidewalk. Her vision was still swimming. She took in a large gasp of breath. She felt like she had been holding her breath. She took a staggered step forward and tripped over herself. Her chest hurt, and despite the fact that she had collided with the hard ground, she couldn’t help but feel uneven. Like she could fall back into the depth of the water at any moment. “Crap, Crap, Crap.” She said, as she tried to compose herself, get herself to start breathing normally as she moved to stand up.
