Once he got to the next floor Daryl made his way down the hall, listening for anything. Mostly he was hearing muffled voices from people who were staying in their apartments. Good. He didn't need to have to rescue anyone from whatever it was roaming the halls. He hated relying on a flashlight to see anything. He'd much rather have natural light.
Just as he came to a corner his flashlight started to waver and he muttered under his breath. "Son of a..." He shook the thing to get it working again then clipped it back to his belt loop then listened. He heard something moving and then someone talking. He didn't recognize the voice, but they sounded young.
He looked around the corner and shook his head at the kid holding a..what the hell was that? Didn't matter, that thing was going to turn on the kid if Daryl didn't do something. He stepped out into the hallway and whistled. "HEY! Whoever the fuck you are. Why you pickin' on that kid?" Might not be the smartest move, but it would give the kid time to get away. Maybe.
