WHO: Albus Potter & Emily Bright
WHAT: Being cute at prom.
WHERE: Julia Morgan Ballroom; Prom
WHEN: Prom night (Backdated!)
RATING: PG (TBC in comments!)
Al felt nervous about his night with Emily. Prom was like the Yule Ball, which was a big deal. He wore a navy suit with a boutonniere matching Emily’s dress and prayed to Merlin he wouldn’t sweat through it.
Once they were safely indoors and away from prying ears, he turned to her and said, “You look really beautiful, Em.”
***
To be honest, Emily hadn’t been fully expecting an invite to prom much less the promposal. She had been hoping Al would ask her but had been prepared to ask him, too. Equal opportunity! He’d asked her, though, and with magical flowers at that. The spell was foreign to Emily, but she had already made plans to try and duplicate it later.
After school was done.
Getting away from everyone and everything was a relief, and Emily smiled at Al’s compliment. He did always have the nicest things to say. “And you look very handsome,” she commented, adjusting the silvery-white flower on his suit. “Probably making all the guys jealous. And the girls since they’re not here with you.”
***
Al’s face turned red, but he grinned. “I think everyone is jealous I’m here with you,” he countered. He glanced around the decked out hall. “They really went all out,” he commented. “What do you want to do first? Photo booth? Food? Dancing?” He wanted her to have the best night ever.
***
"Photobooth! And then some dancing, some food, and then dancing again." She had a wide grin on her face as Emily slid her arm around Al's. He was so sweet, so genuine.
"Or, dancing first?" Dancing meant getting close. They could get close taking pictures, too. "No, pictures definitely," she stated, finally, tugging Al toward one of the booths.
***
Once inside the booth, Al snuggled close to Emily and wrapped an arm around her. “We need to do something silly and something serious,” he said. He enjoyed the closeness the booth provided and the excuse to hold Emily.
***
Making a face at the suggestion of something serious, Emily scrunched her nose up slightly. “Serious? I don’t know. I’m not really a serious kind of person. I’m more dramatic,” she explained, feigning such with a hand draped against her forehead with a flash of the bulb.
“Alright, alright. Serious. A nice picture, right? Something to put on the fridge?” she asked, sneaking a hand up to give Al bunny ears in hopes of having it caught in the next picture. “To give to your Dad and everyone?”
***
Al laughed as the little light flashed. Muggle photos were usually boring in comparison to the ones he was used to, but not these. These were special because Em was in them.
He paused when she mentioned his dad. “I don’t know if he’d really want one,” he explained. “I mean we’re mates, but…” He shrugged. “It is different.” Al really missed his family. He wasn’t like some of his cousins, who might relish the alone time. “Should we do duck lips? Do people still do that?”
***
"Oh, duck lips most definitely. I don't know if they're cool, but that's what makes them extra cool for us." Because going against the proverbial grain is how Emily Bright preferred to be. When you grew up with magical abilities that your parents wanted to be hidden away, normal was much different for her.
It was a part of Emily's life that Al seemed to understand better than most; better than anyone else.
Lips puckered up, Emily readied the ridiculous pose before leaning in to, instead, press a kiss against Al's cheek.
"Oops?"
