Who: Young James Rogers and OPEN
What: James finds himself in a new confusing place
Where: The hallway near his and Tony’s apartment
When: Early Saturday Morning

James was more than confused when he woke up in a room that was not his. This was not the room he shared with his siblings. It was strange though, as he looked around the room, he saw things that seemed to belong to him… they had his name on them. And then, in the corner of the room he saw it… and his eyes went wide. Was that his dad’s shield? He’d never seen it in person before.

James crawled out of the big bed and touched the shield gently. He had seen it in pictures before. He tried to lift it, but it was far too heavy. He wasn’t going to just leave it laying around though, as he wanted to figure out where he was.

He pulled on it, dragging it with all of his might as he made his way out of the room. There was no sign of his family in the livingroom, and looking out the window, they were in a city he’d never seen before. What was happening? Were they safe?

He heard the noise of someone getting up in one of the room and he wanted to run. He thought, briefly about dropping the shield and running, but he knew he couldn’t. He wouldn’t be able to.

He ran as fast as he could, dragging the shield causing it to bump off furniture and make noise as he ran. Straight out the door and into an unfamiliar hallway.

Rapunzel was already awake. She tended to wake with the sun anyway but she was also a light sleeper - and San Francisco had a lot of noise when it wanted to! Pascal yawned as Rapunzel automatically transferred him to her shoulder and she gathered up her hair to... wait. That was a strange noise.

She hurried out of her bedroom, just in time to see a small figure disappear out the door with the shield James had shown her. Thief? Rapunzel did not pause to grab her frying pan because grabbing a weapon was not the first thing on her mind. Rapunzel tended to use her words first. Usually. Most of the time. Okay, so hitting Eugene first and asking questions later had been her first experience but her record had been pretty good since then! For the whole... day.

Rapunzel opened the apartment door and saw the boy with the shield. "Oh - hello. Where are you taking that?" she asked, her tone decidedly more curious than demanding. How far did he think he was going to get with it, anyway? And how had he gotten into the apartment? There was a thing about locked doors. Tony and James had explained it.

James couldn't get away fast enough, and hurried to hide most of his body behind the heavy shield. The woman was not who he was expecting... She didn't seem very scary at all. She was definitely not a robot.

"This is mine. It belongs to my dad and you stole it." James accused, hoping to sound braver than he felt. "Just like you stole me away from my family and I'm going to find them right now. Pym is still just a baby so you better not have hurt him." The young James glared.

Large, green eyes blinked at him as Rapunzel just stared for a moment. "It belongs to your dad?" she asked and she crouched down though she did not try to get around the shield. Had she missed a sibling--Wait.

"I did not steal you away," she said quietly. "I have been here only a few days myself and it was very confusing at first. Can I help you? I would like to help you," Rapunzel said. Pascal made a noise of agreement. "Pascal would like to help you, too. We haven't seen any babies." Pym was still just a baby? She wished she knew more about James and Tony's family. Rapunzel shifted her weight a little on her (bare) feet and tried to peer around the shield. "Please don't be afraid. Can we be brave together and try to find out what's going on?" Rapunzel offered a hand toward him but left plenty of room so he didn't think she was actively reaching for him. Pascal ran down her arm and offered his own hand, trying to help.

James blinked at the woman, and he nodded at her. "Yeah, my dad was a big super hero named Captain America and my mommy was the black widow. And my other daddy is named Tony." He found himself telling her.

He still wasn't sure if he should go with her, but she seemed okay. He could always run away later. He tilted his head as Pascal held out his hand. "Can I hold your lizard?"

"I'm Rapunzel," she said and smiled. She wasn't sure how it was possible but Rapunzel wondered if the boy was James Rogers. She nodded when he asked if he could hold Pascal. "He is a chameleon," Rapunzel added, gently, and held her hand out further so that James could reach.

Pascal was a little better at gauging the situation. He usually was, if she was being honest with herself. "Pascal is my very best friend. We've been together since we were both young."

"I'm James." He said finally. He reached out his hand to let Pascal crawl onto him, laughing slightly as his lizard feet tickled him as he moved. He looked at Rapunzel again carefully before taking his hand. Maybe she'd been kidnapped too. But she looked like an adult... could you even kidnap an adult?

"I have a sister named Torunn but she's not really my sister but she's the closest one of the kids to my age and she's like my best friend. She can use a sword."

Her breath caught when James said his name. How was this possible? Rapunzel smiled at the mention of Torunn. But then it faded at her expression turned serious.

"This is going to sound crazy," she said, pausing to take a deep breath to steady herself. "But I think something magical happened to you. You shouldn't be this young. Tony is in the apartment we came out of. You both helped me on my first day here. Tony took me--" a pause, a hesitation over the word, "shopping. There was a big, fancy party and I needed a dress." She reached up to stroke fingers over her hair though it was all still over her shoulders and behind her. "You are teaching me how to braid my hair so it's not all in the way." Rapunzel shifted a little so that he could see the hair trailing behind her--and around the door to the apartment that was just slightly cracked simply because her hair was in the way of it falling shut. "Do you think we can all go back inside and find Tony? Maybe he can help figure this out? He seems very smart but I think you already know that."

	"Tony and I don't go to fancy parties." James said with a laugh, "It's not safe." But still, he somehow found himself believing the things that Rapunzel was saying to him. "You're hair is super long. I don't know how to braid hairs. My hair isn't long enough, I don't think." But he nodded when she mentioned that Tony was smart. "Tony is the smartest guy ever." She smiled at his laugh, even if the words saddened her. "Until a few days ago, I had never left my tower because it wasn't safe. So I understand that," she said softly.

It was worrying. She knew about magic. Her hair was magic, after all. But could it do something like this? "Let's go find Tony," Rapunzel said and stood, reaching for the apartment door to let herself back in. "Tony? I do not wish to alarm you but you should wake up," she called inside before looking back at James--and Pascal. "Do you want me to help you get the shield back inside?"

Tony heard Rapunzel call to him through his bedroom. He rarely managed a full night's sleep, but his body was still healing from his fight with the Hulk. Still, he was programmed to wake easily and he immediately went into alert mode. He grabbed his robe and pulled it on before hurrying out. "What's wrong --- " The rest of his question died on his lips as he noticed James. Well, a much younger James. "Jamie?"

"I dunno, the shield is very heavy." He said, and he tightened his hand around the handle. He wasn't going to let it out of his sight any time soon.

"Tony!" He called and he struggled for a moment, trying to get over to Tony while dragging the shield with him. Tony wouldn't let anything happen to him, or to the shield though, he knew how important it was. He dropped the shield and ran to Tony wrapping his arms around him. "I CAN NOT FIND PYM OR ZARI OR TORUNN."

	Despite the newness of the situation, Tony immediately bent to squeeze the child hugging him. "They're not here, buddy. I'm sorry. But it is okay. You are safe. I'm here." He smiled over James' head at Rapunzel. "Thank you for watching him," he told her. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Rapunzel smiled at the scene and immediately missed her mother. Gothel was all she had in the world, after all. But at Tony's attention, she looked surprised. "Of course," Rapunzel said, because there was nothing else she could have done. She bent and picked up the shield, making a quiet oof sound as she did so. Pascal had hung onto James during the ordeal and had remained out of the way of the hugging.

"This is heavy," she remarked and at least dragged it closer to the door. Carrying a pile of her own hair? No problem.

	As brave as James had been trying to be, he was so happy and relieved to see Tony. He practically slumped into his dads hug. He hadn't even realized how tired he still was, the adrenaline from waking up in a new strange place wearing out. "My daddy was super strong." He told Rapunzel. 	James felt a little better when Tony had the shield, and he beamed a little when Rapunzel asked him to make sure that Pascal got inside and to the table. "I can do that!" He said cheerfully, feeling better that Tony was here and with him. "Can you make pancakes? I like pancakes?" He asked. "Does Pascal eat pancakes?" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Tony saw Rapunzel's bewildered expression and shot her what he hoped was a reassuring smile. "I can make pancakes," he told James before turning back to Rapunzel. "This place is filled with magic," he explained quietly. "I think the magic is acting up again." (Reply to this) (Parent)
