Cher had surprised herself when she had asked James out for what was, in so many words, a second date. Her normal steps of sending herself flowers and gifts hadn't seemed necessary. More importantly? Cher hadn't wanted to use them, either.

James was really nice. Genuinely so. Very much unlike most of the guys Cher knew back home in school.

Okay, maybe she was kind of crushing on him. She wanted to be cautious, though. They were still all strangers in a sense, even if some knew people better than others. There was also the whole going home thing. It had only happened a few times, but it was clear it could happen.

Still, Cher was enjoying his company. She liked hanging out with him, respected his need to protect others, and felt for him and his past. It was something she could understand well losing her own mother when she was young.

Having excused herself to the restroom briefly, Cher hadn't noticed anything except for a light flurry of bubbles before getting back to the table. "So, what's your deal anyway? I can't even have one french fry? Rude."

James had been having a great time. He'd been pretty wrapped up in her, even before he acknowledged his budding crush on the woman, he had enjoyed hanging around her. She was very different from the people he knew back home, and while most people might have assumed she was terribly weak or flighty, he had admired her strength and personality.

James couldn't even describe the sudden shift in mood, his blood practically boiling when he heard the pitch of Cher's voice. How had he never realized how terrible and annoying her voice was before?

"Jeez." James practically growled cutting his eyes at her, "Could you be any louder. You had your own food, let me enjoy mine."

"Oh, I could absolutely get louder if that's what you want, but you don't want that." She could make a scene, make the entire situation completely horrible for him. Drama came second nature to her.

Just looking at him made her blood boil and Cher was certain she was practically turning ten shades of red. Her jaw hurt from how tightly her teeth were clenched.

The amount of anger she had was obvious as she grabbed a fry from his plate, sending a few falling onto the table. "Ohmygod. Could make even more of a mess?"

"Of course you can." James said, rolling his eyes at her. "Go ahead, pout and stomp and scream like a little child."

James just didn't care. She was the one who would look like an idiot. She was the one whose voice literally raised the hairs on the back of his neck. She was literally the most annoying person in the world.

"Holy shit! That was you!" He argued, and more than annoyed, he tossed one of the french fries at her.
