Waking up in transition would have been disorienting enough, but waking up in unfamiliar surroundings exacerbated it. Hope’s eyes snapped open and she surveyed the area around her, taking in the beach, the colors that were somehow different but anything her eyes had experienced before this moment, just as Freya had described. She could hear the sound of approaching heartbeats and footsteps and her first instinct was to run, not for fear of the people who were coming, but for fear of what she might do to them in her current state. She was her father’s daughter and that would always be a worry, but especially when she needed that first drink of blood so badly.
She was in transition, but she still had her werewolf speed. Did she still have her magic? Quickly, she tried a quick spell, hoping for invisibility and then she ran for the nearest cover she could find. Or tried. She might have speed, but she was also weak and disoriented. Her need for blood slowed her reflexes and before she could get away, she found herself flanked by a group of— soldiers, she thought maybe.
She barely processed the explanations of where she was and what had happened and she was mostly just relieved when she was finally left to her own devices. The question was how, in a place like this, was she going to feed and complete her transition?
Rebekah stood outside of the apartments trying her best to get her thoughts sorted. When she first showed up, she thought she was just arriving in some parallel version of the San Francisco she once visited ages ago. Sure, that was enough of a headache, but the last thing she expected was all of this. Rebekah thought living in a world with vampires, werewolves, witches was enough but apparently all across the universe there was so much more. It was enough to catch even one of the oldest vampires out there off guard, and Rebekah really hated being caught off guard.
She rubbed her temple with her right hand. “I don’t know what I’m doing here,” she spoke softly to herself. Rebekah truly didn’t know what to do next, eventually she might have to try and find a job. The thought made her shudder, sure she’s done some work and volunteered in the past but she’s never been in a position where she truly had to find a way to take care of herself. Of course there were easy ways to go about it but this level of freedom...she thought about it often and now that she was here, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with it.
“Aunt Bex?” Hope’s eyes widened as she caught sight of a familiar face, someone she hadn’t seen in far too long, but who she would recognize anywhere.Taking some steps forward, she stumbled a little before quickly catching herself. She still had some time, but she could feel herself growing weaker. Dying, she thought. That’s what would happen if she didn’t get blood in time. There was a part of her that was oddly at peace with it, but it really wasn’t what she wanted.
Rebekah’s eyes shot forward hearing her name, but the voice and the words did not seem to match up. No, there was no way.
“Hope?” When she watched the young woman stumble, she quickly rushed over to her. Sure enough, as she looked her over there was just an instinct feeling. She could see Hayley in her, of course, but there was no denying that she looked like Klaus. “Hope what’s-” She started to say but it was as if a lightbulb went off. She was weak, and her vampire senses kicked in, something was off about her, definitely off.
And she knew exactly what it was.
“No, gods, Hope what happened?” She looked around quickly then back to Hope and studied her eyes. “You’re hungry.”
“Freya didn’t tell you?” In her current state, it didn’t occur to Hope that she and Rebekah could be here from different times, not that time travel was usually even a thing for them at home. She’d seen a lot of weird crap in the last few years, but this was a new thing, even for her.
“Starving,” she admitted, knowing she meant it almost literally. She wasn’t sure how much time she had, but she could feel that she needed to feed and very soon.
Rebekah shook her head. “No, but I’ve lived long enough to know when someone is transitioning.” Her heart sank, how would Nik feel about his daughter becoming a full tribrid? On the one hand, knowing that she had forever with Hope was a nice thought but a more sinking feeling was that Hope was cursed just like the rest of them, except for Freya. Rebekah wouldn’t wish this on anyone, especially her family.
“Come on. I have food in my room. Think you can make it that far?” Holding on to her, if she needed to run into the building and back, she could, but thought it was best to keep it out of sight.
Truth be told, this wasn’t what Hope wanted for herself. Not yet. She’d always thought she might eventually make that choice at some point in her life, but she was still a teenager, still a kid in so many ways, for all she’d had to grow up quickly, and there were things she’d wanted to do in her life one day, maybe. Things that wouldn’t be possible with her vampire side activated. She hadn’t wanted this anymore than the twins and Dr. Saltzman had, but fate had other plans. She was the tribrid. She was the only one who could stop Malivore and this had been the only way she could do that.
Leaning on her aunt in relief, Hope nodded. “We’re close, aren’t we?” she asked. Assuming Rebekah was staying in the same place they’d given Hope, she was sure they were almost there and once they got there and got her the blood she needed, she'd be ready to fill Rebekah in on everything.
