Log: Luz & Enid, pool time

WHO: Luz Noceda & Enid Sinclair

WHAT: Pool time, sketches, and the beginning of an experiment (on kissing)
WHEN & WHERE: late July / Station Pool
⚠: just schmoop. girls kissing.
Summer was near enough to over that Enid was looking to take advantage of as much of it as possible. Which right now included relaxing by the pool with Luz. It was the perfect day for it, and she got to wear her new orange bikini top with the orange shorts which she’d just had to buy. So all in all, things were good.

Thing had opted out, saying he didn’t want to undo all the hard work he’d done on his skin recently. It was totally an excuse to hang with Edwin and get their geek on with morse code, but she wouldn’t hold it against him. A disembodied hand he might be, but Enid knew how awesome he was, and he needed other friends. A ghost from the past was like, the perfect option as far as she was concerned. And Edwin was cool.

Reclining on one of the chairs set up by the pool for this exact purpose, Enid glanced over at Luz from behind her sunglasses. “Best idea ever, you can say it.”

Luz was sprawled on her stomach, sketchbook open in front of her as her pencil roughed out Enid’s form on the paper. Dressed in a pair of purple board shorts and a tank top with space cats on it - because how could she resist that - her feet were crossed at the ankles as she sketched.

“If I keep telling you all your ideas are amazing, then it’s going to go to your head. Can’t have you getting too cocky,” she teased.

“Pffft,” Enid immediately responded. “You love it when I’m cocky.” Not that she was a cocky person by nature, but with Luz it was fun to play. She’d been content to just lie in the quiet for a while as Luz sketched (she was very aware Luz was drawing her again), but had felt compelled to fill the silence eventually.

“Do I get to see this one once it’s done?”

Luz opened her mouth and closed it quickly before the wrong words could tumble out. Chewing her lower lip, her cheeks flushed.

“Mayyybe…” Luz teased, flashing a grin at Enid. “Depends how it comes out. And how cocky you are. Maybe I’ll decide it’d inflate your ego too much. No need for you to know just how gorgeous you are.”

Especially in that bikini which was exceedingly flattering and had caused Luz to get lost in her thoughts on more than one occasion this afternoon.

“Oh you are cheeky,” Enid laughed, looking away again and closing her eyes. She felt a bit like the kitty she occasionally described herself as lying here in the sun. She could get used to this. Stupid school. Not that she disliked school. In fact, she kind of adored it, especially the social aspects. But summer was just the best time and she wanted it to carry on a little longer.

“But have you considered I may sneak a peek while you’re not looking. What then?”

Luz set the pencil down, and leaned over from her lounge chair to Enid’s, unable to resist stealing a kiss when her girlfriend was pulling off that sleeping beauty look and looking so kissable. “Then I’ll just to make you pay. With kisses. Or ice cream. Or maybe tacos. We’ll see.”

Enid giggled, returning the kiss. She was tempted to make a joke about stolen kisses, but it couldn’t really be called stolen when she was just as happy to give it away. “You’re not thinking big. Why not all three?” They were all things the two of them enjoyed, though when it came to food choices Enid was undeniably the bigger carnivore of the two. “Anyway, it’s fine. I don’t need to see it until it’s ready.”

“Mmm.. see, your evil brain. Just another reason why I l-like you,” she teased, balancing precariously as she kissed Enid again. “One problem with your plan. You keep distracting me so it might never be ready.”

She smiled in a faux innocent way, her nose scrunching up as she did. “Or maaaaybe, I’m drawing out the anticipation.” That wasn’t the case at all, but that wasn’t the point at all. With one final kiss, she pushed herself up into a sitting position on the end of the chair. “Have we talked about what you’re going to do after school? Will you do something with your art? You should totally draw like, a comic or something. If you want!” She had the talent for it, in Enid’s humble opinion.

Luz manouvered back to her own chair without falling on her ass which was a feat to be celebrated. She rolled onto her back, stretching out lazily. “Long term? I don’t know. I mean, I think I’m gonna keep taking art classes in the fall. Maybe get a part-time job and I don’t know about the rest yet. Wouldn’t mind getting to draw or something more full time, but not sure I want to draw for someone else? If that makes sense?”

“For sure!” Enid enthused. “Drawing is your thing, right? You don’t necessarily want someone else dictating what you draw. Or even always seeing it. If it’s your job it might become a chore and that’s gross.” That was one way to potentially ruin a passion, and it was clear drawing was Luz’s passion.

“I’ve thought a little about part time work. Maybe something on the weekends when I’m back at school. No idea what though.” But she didn’t want to rely on poor Bucky for everything. He hadn’t signed up to have a hungry werewolf to support. Even if she knew he didn’t mind in the slightest.

“Other than being a kick ass party planner? I’m sure folks would pay for that,” Luz offered. Because Enid was incredibly good at organizing that sort of thing. And her creativity was epic level. “But maybe not every weekend.”

There was a wink as Luz glanced at the other girl. “I might see what sorts of jobs the museums have. Where I can talk to people but still maybe draw when there’s down time.” She tucked her pencil in her curls and held the sketchbook teasingly out towards Enid. “What’ll you give me to sneak a peak?”

“Ooh,” she enthused. That wasn’t a bad idea. “I could totally advertise on my blog. Not to brag or anything, but I’ve got a lot of followers.” Suck it Wednesday, they liked the emojis. “Something to think about, anyway.”

She could definitely see that. “I bet you’d make the tours super fun.” Magic or not. Luz was an awesome storyteller, in her humble opinion. When her girlfriend held the book out to her, she made a teasing swipe for it, without actually putting too much effort into getting a hold of it. “I think I’m supposed to ask what you’ll accept as payment. How do you feel about a kiss in the pool?”

Luz laughed. “It’s not bragging if it’s true.” It was odd sometimes, that Enid , in all her Enid-ness was popular. Or maybe it was odd that a popular girl liked Luz. Maybe Luz was just overthinking. It wouldn’t be the first time.

“I mean, I do know some really weird facts about the supernatural history. Ooooh! Maybe they do ghost tours of the city. I would be amazing at that. Think of the costumes!”

Luz smirked. “I don’t know. Are pool kisses better than normal kisses?”

“Oh my god, yes! You would be so good at that. Find some place with a haunted history? I love it.” She could rock the costumes and the history and add her supernatural flair. It made total sense.

“Unverified.” She was all mock seriousness. “We should probably do some extensive testing. Make sure we’re comfortable with our hypothesis.”

Luz tucked the sketchbook under her towel and got to her feet, holding a hand out to her girlfriend. “We need a non-pool kiss first. For a control in the experiment,” she teased, cheeks flushing as she smirked impishly.

Okay, but was she ever going to get over the precious way Luz’s cheeks went pink in these moments? No. She was going with no. Taking the offered hand, she got to her feet to join Luz. “Look at you being a responsible scientist,” she winked, leaning in to kiss the other girl.

“If only my teachers could see me now.” She returned the kiss, wrapping her around around Enid and trying to guide them towards the pool without falling over. “I can do more than set classrooms on fire and make the frogs we’re supposed to be dissecting dance.”

Realizing that might not be the best topic of conversation for setting the mood, she settled on kissing Enid again. “Have to make sure we have a good control.”

Enid laughed, delighted. Trust Luz to bring up making dead frogs dance. She backed them up a few steps closer to the pool. “I think we need to work on your kissing talk,” she joked. At that further kiss, Enid’s eyes glittered with mischief. “Enough controls. Pool now.” And with that she pulled on Luz’s wrist to tug them both in the direction of the water, pulling her in with her.

“Boss-!” The words were cut off with a squeak as she found herself in the water, splashing about until she wrapped her arms around Enid and tickled her. “And what should kissing talk be? Telling you how that bikini is evil because it keeps distracting me and giving me all sorts of thoughts? Because you look gorgeous and I can’t decide whether I want everyone to see how gorgeous my girlfriend is or whether I want to drag you to my room.”

Once they were both upright in the water again and she was done squirming away from the tickle attack, Enid smiled warmly, pushing her hair back from her face. “You’re sweet. I just liked it - no evil intentions. We’ll call that a happy accident.”

Luz smiled as her cheeks flushed. “Sometimes I think all of this is just a happy accident and I’m the luckiest girl in the world.” Her hand reached for Enid’s under the water, interlacing their fingers. “Phase two of the experiment is pool kisses, right?”

“Pfffft, please.” She squeezed that hand, though, moving a little closer. “Bingo!” Leaning in, she kissed Luz again, her mind moving to that Romeo and Juliet moment, but with way less family drama. They’d have to try this underwater next, for sure.

Luz returned the kiss lazily before pulling back to catch her breath, resting her forehead against Enid’s. “Definitely good. But a little chlorine-y.”

“One point off for chlorine-y influence,” she giggled. That was fair. She put her hands on Luz’s shoulders. “I do prefer the taste of sunshine kisses,” she agreed. “I guess next we’ll have to try a couple in the rain.”

“Maybe just a half-point. Let me try again.” Luz leaned in for another kiss. Or two. “For research. Obviously. Though currently sunshine kisses are winning I think.”

“You know what, though? We haven’t tried underwater kisses, yet.” Going in for kiss number three, she also pulled them both beneath the surface of the water mid-kiss, closing her eyes in the process.

That was definitely a new sensation. As long as she kept kissing Enid, she didn’t get chlorine in her mouth. Luz’s arms wrapped around Enid, pulling her close before finally pulling them both up for air. Breathless, damp curls plastered to her face, she grinned at Enid. “Okay. So, romantic appeal high. Technically challenging because we don’t have gills and need to breathe. And I can’t look at you during it. Should we be taking notes?”

Enid pushed some wet curls back off Luz’s face, her smile bordering on laughter. “I think we’re good. It’s all up here.” She gestured towards her head. “This will make a fun blog entry later.” Different kisses, the pros and cons, from taste to romantic appeal. She could just see the emojis now. “You look good too, for the record. I didn’t say that before.”

“Mmm.. could even poll people to see if they agree with our assessments.” The tender action caused another blush. “You don’t need too. So we’re adding rain kisses. Couch kisses? Bed kisses? What else?”

“I don’t have to do anything. But I want to.” And Luz was blushing again, which was a sure fire sign she’d got under her skin. Enid didn’t mind that in the slightest. “I want to say we should probably avoid full moon kisses,” she joked. Because that would be weird, probably. “But regular moon kisses are fine!”

“Deal,” Luz agreed. “How do we feel about roller coaster or ferris wheel kisses? Or movie kisses - does it depend on how good the movie is?”

“Roller coaster kisses get a high rating because they’re more challenging. And the movie ones definitely depend on how good the movie is. The worse the movie, the better the kiss. It’s all about the distraction.” They’d already done some mediocre movie kisses after all, and she rated them pretty highly.

“Are we distinguishing between movie theatre kisses versus movie on the couch kisses? They have kinda different vibes. Ooooh! Dancing kisses!” She was pretty sure they could some up with an exhaustive list to try of different kisses. But the idea of dancing had Luz wrapping her arms around Enid’s waist, attempting some sort of dancing in the water.

“Very different vibes,” she agreed. She smiled brightly at Luz’s enthusiasm about dancing kisses. “Dancing kisses are their own special category. And change depending on the music. What’s your favorite music? I don’t think we’ve ever talked about that before!”

Luz brushed her lips against Enid’s. “It depends on the situation? Like sometimes I just need to rock out to my mom and dad’s old music from the 80s and 90s and sometimes you need some KPOP . Other moods call for cryptid style folk music. And if we’re dolled up to the 9s for some fancy ball, then it might need to be something a little fancier. We could trade playlist, if you want to see how weird my brain is.”

Enid outright giggled at that. “I don’t need your playlists to know how weird your brain is, Luz.” It just so happened she liked that weird brain a whole lot. Not to mention, she had a pretty weird brain of her own. “But we should do that. Lots of K-pop on mine. Oh, and a bunch of Tchaikovsky. Thing likes his violin concertos.”

The giggle was adorable and irresistible and Luz pulled her close for a kiss. This one a little longer and a little lazier. “More music is always good thing. Does Thing play violin? I could see him being good at the fingering if someone else could do the bowing or whatever. I don’t play though. I mean, I took some piano when I was younger, but haven’t really played in years.”

“Nope,” she answered after that lingering kiss ended. “He probably could, but he just likes to listen. Wednesday plays the cello. She’s amazing. Didn’t think it was my sort of music but she brought me around. “Maybe you should take lessons again!” She enthused. “The new guy, Lestat? He offered to teach people. He’s teaching me French.”

“Oooh, french lessons,” Luz teased playfully. “The only french I know is ‘oui, oui, merci, Pepe Le Peu, and voulez vous coucher avec moi from that old song Lady Marmalade. But if you ever want to learn Spanish, I’m your girl.”

“Don’t worry, mon petit chou, I won’t use any of the words you don’t know,” she smirked. Of course Luz would quote that song, incorrigible girl. “I like French. It sounds so fancy. At least when Lestat uses it.”

“Sound very pretty and fancy when you use it, querida,” Luz smirked. If all else failed, she could just speak to Enid in Spanish. “Just make sure he doesn’t sweet talk you too much with those pretty words.”

“Please,” Enid scoffed, looking amused. “He is like, centuries old vampire guy. I bet he’s got some epic love story going on that none of us know about.” She took a step back, keeping a hold of Luz’s hand. “Come on, before we get all wrinkly.”

“You keep talking like that and I’m going to start writing fanfic about station residents,” Luz teased. “Good plan. Less wrinkly. More kisses and snacks.”
