Second Chances: the Network

You think after so many times being woken up in the on call room I would have been ready for an excited four year old to jump between me an Nic. It was technically our first one as a family.

New Year I think we need a babysitter so me and Nic can have a drink to celebrate.

That timeline was strange... It's like I lived out a whole other dream. Being someone who helped out abroad instead of working at the hospital.

Looks like odd things happening at my Halloween party is going to be an annual thing. Is everyone alright?

One year ago yesterday, I went to a job fair (spoiler alert: no one hired me) and met a dude in a purple shirt at the coffee stand.

Now we're married.

The world is pretty fantastic.

What is it about this time of year that brings out the nutjobs?

We've had three different people in the hospital today with holiday-related accidents, including one guy who couldn't get a pumpkin off his head. I mean, it took everything in me not to laugh while cutting the poor kid out.

In other news, I think I figured out a Halloween costume!

It's almost time for Halloween. The years really fly by. Need to decide on a costume.

Gigi wants to keep a talking penguin that likes hugs... it's cute and not wanting to hurt us.

I'm going to work and hoping this is all gone when I get back tomorrow.

God... Can I just stay in bed all day and recover?

So it seems like a lot of the adultier adults aren't feeling so hot

Now, kids and less adulty adults. We could be little jerks and make their lives miserable. Oooor, we could take today and go have fun in the park. I've got a bunch of squirt guns, a water slip n slide type thing, a football, a soccer ball, those giant bubble wands, one of those cornhole games, and even a foam maker...thingie. I don't know, it looked fun.

I checked and the park down the street doesn't have any major events and they have water hookups.

So who's in? I'm bringing Morgan and Addie and I'm sure someone would be willing to bring Gigi.

I've never lived in a house with a baby. It's actually kind of cool. She's cute, she smells good (most of the time) and she's stopped crying when she looks at me. We're making progress.

So uh... Hello everyone. I just arrived here. I'm Nic, Nic Nevin. I worked as a nurse back home.

Has anyone seen my husband Conrad or our daughter Gigi?

Sad to say, this isn’t even the top five out of the weirdest things that have happened to me.

Q said I should introduce myself and shit, so, hi, I’m Julia. My daughter, Hope, made the trip with me, so I guess I’m going to need a go to for baby clothes and supplies. We picked up some things yesterday, but I have a feeling I’m going to need more really soon.

I need help in my apartment. I found my best friend and he's in bad shape. Is there a doctor in the house? Is anyone familiar with medicine?

I know we got a nurse in the building, but he needs something now and I don't know where to get it- how the hell do I even find the drug store around here?? I don't wanna leave him alone.

So what do you want me to say?

[He's making excuses, checking his phone, doing anything because he'd rather not be the one having to explain himself, he's done that enough. He likes just getting on and doing his job. Making people better.]

[He hears Gigi start to fuss so everything can wait. The little girl comes first. He vanishes to return with his daughter in his arms and in hers a toy giraffe and seems all happy to play with it and ignore everything again]

This is my daughter Gigi and Mr Giraffe. Her mom isn’t here but I… we’re hoping that Nic will turn up. I’m going to be working as a doctor when I’m not looking after trouble here.

[He kisses Gigi on the head before getting Mr Giraffe shoved in his face. Because her daddy is her focus over anything else.]

Maybe it’s nap time for Mr Giraffe. We're going to need some help...
