Second Chances: the Network

I honestly can't believe I've been here for a year now. It's passed so quickly and somehow also so slowly at the same time. Weird.

I took advantage of the Earth Day sales and got some new plants for the apartment. I love the way they look and the freshness they bring to the place. I admit it is a good distraction too.

I'm trying to put together a list of the best sweets that I might be able to try here. I know I've already gone through many since arriving here, but one can never have too many sweets, right?

Also, I just started putting together a playlist of music that I've heard, songs I like, I mean. If you have a favorite song, I'd love to know it. Music is the one thing that seems the most similar between where I'm from and here, even if the singers and bands and such are unfamiliar.

I don't really have any aspirations to be a mermaid. What century was it when they just dusted themselves in talc and pretended they didn't all smell? Let's all live like that for a while!

I have two drastically different questions for the masses, answer one or both, if you like:

1. Since we know time travel/alternate universes are obviously a thing, if you could actually pick where to go temporarily, where would you want to end up?

2. Crunchy or creamy peanut butter? This is a hot topic of debate in our apartment and there is a wrong answer.

Dustin's gone. Looks like he was sent home but his doofy baseball cap is still here.

So he'll be back. I'm on hold with the school but the office isn't open yet.

Dr. Banner, he won't be in class today, maybe not tomorrow either.

So, I'm not sure if folks have their spring breaks planned out already or not, but the museum has given me a grant to go on a dig and have said I'm allowed to take students with me. I'll be there for close to two weeks - around March 23 to April 3.

UC Berkeley & Stanford have spring break the first week and the high school is off the second week. Folks are welcome to stay as long as they want during that time. I'll also need chaperones, so adults, if you want to come, we can make it happen.

As for sites, currently debating between Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. Should have that finalized in a week or two.

Since Valentine's Day sucks. SO much. Eff this is on a Saturday this year, I'll be hosting a Galentine's brunch on Sunday the 15th. It'll be at Edge of Glory and since it's before open hours, all ages are welcome. Brunch service begins at 11 and will last until everyone has trickled out. Five flavors of mimosas and - hey, Mal, any chance I can talk you into brewing up some Valentine's themed mocktails? If so, those. Otherwise, whatever I can think of. We're putting out a fairly decent spread of waffles, eggs three different ways, various breakfast meats, appetizers and snack foods, and whatever else my chef can whip up.

All gals and nonbinary pals are welcome to join us! Sorry, fellas, you'll have to prep your own shindig.

I know we have bigger problems and this is a random statement but

It's weird when you hear two people arguing (Jason and Yelena. It's Jason and Yelena) and they switch languages mid-sentence. Multiple times. And it's weirder when you can follow the argument.

Which brings me to my point and I know it's been asked before but I'm asking again:

Other than English, what languages do you speak? I'm only claiming fluency in 12. Yes, I realize that's a brag. But I blame Bruce.

Okay. So, still wrapping my head around interdimensional travel being possible. I mean, there've definitely been theories and discussions of some sort of multiverse being possible, but there hasn't been any actual evidence or anything.

It's pretty cool, actually. And that there are people with actual magic and superpowers here? Even cooler. I have so many questions.

Anyway, I should definitely introduce myself. My name is Lahela Kamealoha, I'm sixteen years old, and I'm a doctor. So the whole school thing is definitely throwing me a bit. Though it might be fun to see how fast I can get through high school this time. But I do not want to go through med school all over again. Not that it wasn't fun the first time, just don't really feel like starting from the bottom again.

Also, was definitely not prepared for the weather. I'm from Hawaii, so definitely not accustomed to the cold. Or ice.

Hey there! I was told that you were going to be my guardian while I'm here. I just want to say thanks, I can guess that being saddled with a teenager that you don't know definitely isn't an ideal circumstance.

So like, half my class didn’t show up today. I think this weather is keeping people home. The profs are making noises like classes might be cancelled if this gets worse.

Cold doesn’t bother me so if anyone needs anything while I’m out, just send me a message.

Today was my first day of this world's schooling, and I can't say I'm particularly impressed. It's very very different from my studies back on Alderaan, especially because I haven't been attending a formal school for several years. I'm trying to be positive about the experience, but the classes I'm taking aren't really applicable to me at all. I was able to sign up for a language class, though, and I'm looking forward to that the most.

Also, can someone explain to me what pickle ball is? It's my physical education requirement, but I thought pickles were those soured green vegetables that come in a jar at the market?

Mike and I have been talking about it off and on for awhile, so I figured I would see how much interest other people might have in joining a D&D campaign. If you don't know how to play, we can teach you. It's not as hard as it might seem. We can even do a one shot if anyone wants to try it out, but isn't super committed yet. It can get pretty time consuming, but is a lot of fun. We have some ideas already in the works and Mike is one of the best DMs around.

I need to get out of this crappy headspace. Thinking about making christmas/Chanukkah/whatever you celebrate- cookies if anyone wants to join?

This is not at all where I expected to turn up. Earth isn't on any star map I've ever studied. I can't believe there's no way to leave the planet, either. Incredible! After all, where I'm from, even planets far out in the Outer Rim have access to other planets, other worlds. I don't know if I can remember the last time I stayed in one place longer than a standard week, perhaps a fortnight.
