Second Chances: the Network

So, I'm not sure if folks have their spring breaks planned out already or not, but the museum has given me a grant to go on a dig and have said I'm allowed to take students with me. I'll be there for close to two weeks - around March 23 to April 3.

UC Berkeley & Stanford have spring break the first week and the high school is off the second week. Folks are welcome to stay as long as they want during that time. I'll also need chaperones, so adults, if you want to come, we can make it happen.

As for sites, currently debating between Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas. Should have that finalized in a week or two.

I don't think I'm getting wings. It feels a little pointed. Like, "you get to do ghost things at night, you don't get to fly, too" kind of pointed.

Even the new guy in my English class, who started school last Wednesday, showed up at school on Friday with badass, punk rock dragon wings.

Yes, I'm being petulant about it. No, I don't care that I am. I'm this close to stomping my foot and demanding a lollie as a consolation prize.

I get traditions are tradition. I do. But leave that poor groundhog alone. No matter what happens with his shadow, we have six weeks until the Spring Equinox.

It has always been six weeks no matter how you slice it.

The Liaison Officer tried to explained things but I am kinda freaked out right now. I was at a gas station and the next thing I know I'm here! And it's freezing outside. But the officer said I should post something so... okay?

So other than the being-15ish-years-in-the-future thing, there's that. Though, technology's really improved since 2012. Is this normal? Are we just here now and that's it?

Okay, so I don't know who thought doing classes through a computer was a good idea - and yes I know the weather sucks - but science class cannot be done properly through a screen. It is something that must be experienced, hands on. Doing science through a screen doesn't work and it's hard to do experiments at home.

We had snow days back home, or... actually... we didn't have that many. I think it had something to do with the fact that the town was so small and the land was flat enough that plows were able to do their jobs quick. But seriously, how long until I can be back in science in person?

I found something when I was exploring the city. A garden, maybe someone's private garden? But it wasn't attached to a house, so I'm not sure. Anyway, you all ought to come see it, I remember how to get back to it and it's a nice spot. Worth checking out a few more times at least to see if it stays abandoned.

This is not at all where I expected to turn up. Earth isn't on any star map I've ever studied. I can't believe there's no way to leave the planet, either. Incredible! After all, where I'm from, even planets far out in the Outer Rim have access to other planets, other worlds. I don't know if I can remember the last time I stayed in one place longer than a standard week, perhaps a fortnight.

After this week, there's only one week left of class. Then we have a week that EVERYONE IS CALLING HELL WEEK!!!!!!!! to study and write and do all the things for finals. Then finals.

I'm freaking out. Completely freaking out. Why do they all think they're the only class I have?! I have so much to do. I'm never gonna get it all done and I'm going to forget everything I learned before taking the finals. And how am I supposed to write two 20 page papers?!

OOoh. Wait. I can make one a graphic novel thing.

Okay, no. I'm good.

So... does school do a lot of holidays? Not that I'm complaining.

Heya. Apparently we're goin to be roommates. I figured I'd introduce myself before I headed over. That way it's slightly less of a surprise.

This is a new sort of new. Wasn't quite expecting this, but guessing no one does.

What the kriff- Name's Poe. Got the rundown and a key. Guess this will teach me to have a moment of wanting a vacation. My wish got twisted when granted or something.

...I never thought I'd miss my stint at the Academy. At least that was more interesting than this school thing. I am not made to sit still for so many hours a day.

Also, I feel like I need to study pop culture to even get references people are making.

OKAY SO. It's the end of September and I have to pull myself back together so you know what that means!

GIANT HALLOWEEN BASH! Edge of Glory will be hosting, costumes OBVIOUSLY encouraged. Go as wild as you want but important bits must be covered because I love you all but I'm not losing my liquor license for you. There will be prizes for some categories (think best group, spookiest, funniest, best mashup, coupl ah fuck it cutest couple, and probably more as I think about them).

Family friendly till 8, 18+ after that (and shouldn't you smol people be Trick or Treating anyway?)

Drink specials all night long and we'll be open till 2am. Halloween is on a Friday this year and we're going BIG so go practice your best Thriller and I'll see everyone there!

Not sure how people can deal with years of schooling when I can barely get through the week without wanting to throw things. How is it not Friday yet?

Cafeteria talk today at school was about Halloween costumes. I said I was thinking about being Freddy Mercury, and one of the kids asked who that was.

I feel outraged and old. More outraged, I think. How do they not know Queen? I get it if one of us from a different universe doesn't know, but from here, when I know I've seen their albums on both vinyl and CD? Inconceivable.
