Please help me not do something stupid. I swear to god, the only reason I'm not in the streets right now is my familial responsibilities.

Trying to find a decent place to train in this city is impossible. The fancy ones are full of people who are there to be looked at, not to do actual work, and the membership fee is astronomical. The other end of the spectrum often smells like wet dog, and I swear that one of them had mold growing in the locker room.

Then there was the goldilocks location: right cost, clean, decent amenities, but full of toxic men with BDE that thought they'd get their jollies by intimidating the short girl.

I know we have a gym here, but I was looking for somewhere that I could work on what I already know and maybe learn some stuff that I don't. Even take some classes. Does that exist, or am I looking for a unicorn?

Well, the Imams in Saudi Arabia have finally spotted the moon, so, Eid festivities tonight at sundown in the common room! There will be dates and lots of Iraqi and Pakistani (and other middle eastern and south asian) treats. Everyone's welcome to join!

(And yes, I'm thrilled we're going by the Saudi imams instead of the Indian ones, so that I can enjoy the food at Chris & Una's wedding tomrrow)

Did you guys know they actually have places where you can rent commercial kitchen space? For things like, I don't know, home bakeries and food trucks?? They even have storage space for refrigerated and not refrigerated goods!

ANYWAY grateful to not be monopolizing the family oven for the next two days.

Apparently National Ranch (like the dressing, not the farm) Day is a thing and I'm just midwestern enough to participate.

I'd say no baked goods, but I did make ranch cornbread. And it's annoyingly good.

But also, a cajun chicken ranch pasta?? That's going to happen.

So the important question here is: Hidden Valley or Kraft? I'm Hidden Valley loyal but I'm not stubborn.

I have the best friends (and family, and boyfriend) a girl could ask for.

Chris and I are finalizing/working-on wedding plans.

Lila, you are absolutely free to say no but I'd like to hire you for cake duties. I was thinking a smaller "cutting ceremony" cake and then cupcakes for the guests. No, invitations have not gone out but we'll likely extend to our residential crowd at large for the reception/party because people do like a reason to gather.

Eliot is in charge of food.

The only rule here is that Chris has been banned from all food preparations and has no idea what is being planned insofar as any of it goes because I want his attention elsewhere.

A little last minute, but I know people are excited about being able to fly and also Valentine's Day is this weekend, and that's a big deal.

But! Like Samirah mentioned, Ramadan starts on the 17th, but it also happens to be Mardi Gras AND the day that the Lunar New Year is being observed. So we were talking about having a Mardi Gras party, but then I had a thought on the way home today.

What if we do an international potluck to celebrate everything all at once?

I am still looking for someone who knows how to make really good gumbo and king cake, though!

If you're planning on Valentine's Day treats for that special someone, tonight is your last chance to get an order in. Cake orders are already closed but cookies, brownies, etc are still doable and deliveries are done Saturday morning. Cake pops are buy half a dozen, get half a dozen right now, too.

But Sunday after 12, your girl is CLOSED. I've got my own Valentine's to celebrate and I've got decades of a future in the restaurant industry to give up my holidays!

Uhhhh... this morning has been interesting.

It's official. This cold has gotten to me and I've snapped. I'm talking to kitchen appliances and I've named the poolish I started. Her name is Georgina and she made some delicious french toast and while it was, in fact, delicious, I'm growing concerned for myself here!

You'd never know I grew up in the middle of nowhere with very little human contact.

Might want to make sure we got rations to last however long this goes on. Ice planets don't get much by way of deliveries. Food gets hard to come by. Ain't been to one for a reason.

Survival kits. Somethin to think about.

I'm officially signed up for college classes at San Francisco State for the spring semester. I wasn't even sure if I was going to continue with college here, but hey, I might as well, right?

I'm not sure if I'm going to continue with the business route here, so I'm undeclared for now. Though I am going to see if there's an archery team. I also signed up to learn ASL. Never hurts to pick up new skills, right?

Apparently it's National Cookie Day. If you think we're not celebrating in the Barton-Hargreeves-Hayes household, you are very wrong.

...not that my poor roommates aren't inundated with cookies literally all the time but that's not the point.

Anyway, we've got gingerbread, sugar cookies, almond vanilla, and chocolate salted caramel. Make your requests or a random baggie with your name is just going to show up at your door in the middle of the night. (Or at a nice reasonable 6pm, I do have two classes today)

Ray, I did not forget about you! I hope almond vanilla is okay?? Does anyone else need gluten free before I start passing all this out?

This is not at all where I expected to turn up. Earth isn't on any star map I've ever studied. I can't believe there's no way to leave the planet, either. Incredible! After all, where I'm from, even planets far out in the Outer Rim have access to other planets, other worlds. I don't know if I can remember the last time I stayed in one place longer than a standard week, perhaps a fortnight.

Molly and I went to get ice cream as a date like we usually do and we were waiting at the bus stop to take the bus home again like we usually do and then some guy come up to us and he was like "I found two of them" and like we were the only two people at the bus stop so I think he was talking about us but I have no idea who he is but he seemed to know who me and Molly are and that was not cool but he wasn't very friendly and he was talking to other people, but I didn't see them and I didn't want to get into a fight or let Molly get into a fight so I grabbed her and I ran as fast as I could but they have these traps for fast runners and it was like a trip wire or something and it knocked me off balance and I feel real hard and my arm really hurts and there is probably more of them throughout the city and I couldn't really pick up Molly anymore so we couldn't run but they were still looking for us so we tried to go around the long way and get back to the building but we got outside of the city and now we can't get back into the city and we don't really have any money for a hotel or nothing and I also don't know if hotels will let teenagers buy rooms
