Second Chances: the Network

I'm never going to get used to people just .....disappearing. Mal is....was? is a good friend, and I'll miss him loads. I'm saying is because I'm choosing to believe he'll be back one day, even if he won't remember everyone.

But I did have a question for those who have taken on a job that was perhaps out of their comfort zone here. How did you figure out it was the right thing to do? Cause I had one offered to me after the job fair last month, but I'm not sure if about it.

It's teaching — a part-time, summer only thing. One class for adults who want to take up creative writing as a hobby or, I suppose, a career. I know how to write — I wrote a few books at home before all this — but just because I know how to do something doesn't mean I can teach other people to be competent.

I got up very early, grabbed a coffee and a pastry from one of the local coffee shops, and I'm sitting in Rincon Park watching the world go by from one of the benches overlooking the water.

What's everyone else enjoying for breakfast?

I have a new job. I'll be working at the Exploratorium. I decided to accept the offer there. It was a hard choice as I had both Academy of Science and Exploratorium to choose from. They are more geared towards engineering which is still my first love. Thanks to everyone who supported this change ♥

I'm a little bit inspired to also sew again. So don't be discouraged to bring me your super suits. Which are my specialty as far as that goes.


Forgot entirely about my birthday last week save for Rose's post...belated birthday drinks maybe yes? and yes Rose you also should come :p

Didn't expect to have a birthday with a tail, but it's definitely better than the last few. Did make dancing harder, but once you dry off, good to go??

AND I landed a job (thanks for the tip, Cisco, you're brilliant!) and I had to come up with about 4 excuses to postpone orientation and onboarding because it WON'T STOP RAINING and I'm a girl who needs a magical portal directly from one inside to another inside or else I'm going to be an exhibit at the museum and not, you know, an exhibits coordinator.

So....


Mermaid tails are a thing for me too now, I guess? I was making tea and spilled some water, and now one of the mugs is broken after I lost my balance.

Has anyone else’s pet dog sprouted a unicorn horn?

Unfortunately, I don’t know if this is a natural development for a Kryptonian canine, or if it’s just this place playing a trick.

As of 11am, all of Doctor Strange's appointments have been rescheduled. If anyone wants to schedule with him over the next few days, please check if they would be comfortable with another provider if it's urgent or if they can wait until he's back in the office.

Did you know:

• In as little as 18 months, you could train to be a dental hygienist?
  
• The starting salary for many entry level positions is enough to have bought a well appointed cozy cottage in the country when I was growing up?
  
• One of the booths is being "manned" by some form of overly friendly automaton? It appears to be for some form of technological company whose entry requirements include far too much education and pre-existing experience. Absurd.
  
• Collecting the pamphlets and various ephemera from the oblivious purveyors has become quite the game for me as I move from one location to the next?
  
• I've learned how to make bullet points on this device? It's quite fun.

I went to the job fair that popped up...I have interviews at the Exploratorium and the Academy of Science in various departments at the end of the week. I'd already called ahead with much encouragement from Henry and it was initially scheduled for end of April but has been moved up.


...asdfghasfg I haven't had interviews since undergrad.

The thing about sitting in a pile of puppies for hours is... I mean, I feel like they knew this would happen. I feel like it's the whole reason they did it. And we became best buddies. And I went and visited her at the rescue. Twice. Perks of living alone, no roommate to approve so uh.

I have zero regrets except now I really do need to get an established job. I'm surprised they were so chill on letting me bring her home but I also am really good at twisting little truths and apparently they know about uh...what we are, I guess?

I have two drastically different questions for the masses, answer one or both, if you like:

1. Since we know time travel/alternate universes are obviously a thing, if you could actually pick where to go temporarily, where would you want to end up?

2. Crunchy or creamy peanut butter? This is a hot topic of debate in our apartment and there is a wrong answer.

First day of spring break and there are puppies in the park!

Also a new group of little Zs to entertain at the community center plus my old crew.

I honestly am not sure what to say about this one.

The last thing I expected when going in for my shift at the Clinic today, was to open an upper cabinet that is supposed to be for supplies only to have fifteen to twenty boxes of Oreos come down on my head like a chocolate and plastic film avalanche.

Honestly, you can't make this stuff up.

I was wondering if you might be interested in learning about xenobiology. I'm thinking of putting together a presentation of some sort for the rest of the staff, but thought you might appreciate a one-on-one session. It's a fascinating area!

We all agree that the best part of Valentine’s Day, or Halloween, or Easter is the day after when all the candy goes on steep discount, yeah? Had a grand time raiding the leftovers at the CVS this morning. There were still a ton of those candy hearts with words on it like ‘sweetheart’ or ‘true love,’ but as they have the consistency of chalk and generally taste like what I’d imagine chalk would, that’s not a surprise.


(ooc: hi guys, the internet situation is somewhat resolved — work sent me a Starlink Mini, and my neighbors have had theirs restored and are happy to let me use it, so I’m gonna dip my toes back in. Will still be somewhat slow on responses as the Starlink is data capped, but supposedly I’m on the list for repairs and will hopefully get my fiber connection fixed by the end of the month.)

You know what, not even the weirdest thing that's happened to me. And I do appreciate the jump through realities being accompanied by guidance and an apartment for once, even though that implies it's going to be a long term stay.

First, a nap. Because apparently reality jumping is exhausting no matter which direction it goes. Then food would be great and I know I'm stuck in the States where good chips are highly unlikely but I'll settle for mediocre 'fries'. Recommendations are accepted.
