You know what isn't fun? Splashing yourself with water while filling up pitchers at work and ending up with a tail. At least I was in the back and not out near the customers. Not entirely sure how I'd explain it.

I've stopped questioning most of the strange things that happen, but is the bat invasion an annual thing and I wasn't paying attention last year or....?

I wouldn't mind them so much if they wouldn't make it feel like I'm getting dive bombed on the way to work.

I like bamboo shoots as much as the next guy but this craving is ridiculous. The little old couple working the Chinese takeout (why is it always a little old couple?) looked at me funny when I asked for extra-extra-extra bamboo and I didn't even know how to explain it?! Extra carrots maybe, extra broccoli sure, but extra bamboo?

Is this a This Place thing? I feel like this is a This Place thing because even as a Certified Emo (circa 2009), this is a weird amount of black and white.

It's Pi day. I spent it tinkering in the lab, but now I'm bringing pizza and French silk pie home to my family to enjoy. If you haven't celebrated yet, take this as your cue to grab a pie and solve for x.

I'm afraid all my careful budgeting has hit the end of its ability to stretch. I might have to actually consider a job, how disgusting.

My reward for an insanely busy weekend at work — two doubles on Friday and Saturday, and a regular eight-hour shift today — is a bottle of wine, an enormous pizza, and a date with my bed. She’s comfy; I’ve missed her.

But I do have an important question for those of you that have explored outside the city a good bit: where is a good place for hiking or recreational activities? It’s warmed up enough that I need to go somewhere that’s not encroached by concrete and steel. Bonus points if it’s dog friendly; I’d love to take Jinx with me.

I'm not used to the airspace being so crowded.

Since my roomie moved out, it seems some squirrels have seen I'm lonely and in need of companionship. I don't mind the little guys, but they do have some big personalities and they do love their snacks.

Who can advise me on temporary co-existence with my new roommates?

I know, I know, don't get out in all this unless you have to, but I had to go to a doctor's appointment and I'm not gonna lie, it is pretty terrible.

On the other hand, it's nice to have someone to come home to now. No offense, Flynn, but it's just not the same coming home to a roommate as it is coming home to a girlfriend.

Now excuse me, I have to put on fifty layers before I leave the doctor's office...

Today was my first day of this world's schooling, and I can't say I'm particularly impressed. It's very very different from my studies back on Alderaan, especially because I haven't been attending a formal school for several years. I'm trying to be positive about the experience, but the classes I'm taking aren't really applicable to me at all. I was able to sign up for a language class, though, and I'm looking forward to that the most.

Also, can someone explain to me what pickle ball is? It's my physical education requirement, but I thought pickles were those soured green vegetables that come in a jar at the market?

I've never really understood New Year's resolutions. They always sound like you're setting yourself up for failure or self-loathing if you don't follow through. But I did pick out a couple of intentions for this coming year. Things I'd like to keep in mind and focus on.

One of them is to keep this lovely girl happy and healthy. Everyone, ( please meet Jinx ).

She's actually been with me for a trial since just before Christmas, but I made it official and adopted her today. I've never had a dog before, so if anyone wants to give me tips, I would appreciate it.

If you go out at night, don't go alone. Two guys and one girl were waiting about halfway between the pub and the building tonight on my way back from work. I don't know if the goal was just to scare me, or steal my stuff, or something worse, but they clearly had thought this through. Unclear if it's got anything to do with all the other odd stuff, but after Mal's experience at the pub, I've got to wonder.

One of the blokes has a mean right hook. If my magic was working properly, I would have hexed him before he got close enough to make contact.

Cafeteria talk today at school was about Halloween costumes. I said I was thinking about being Freddy Mercury, and one of the kids asked who that was.

I feel outraged and old. More outraged, I think. How do they not know Queen? I get it if one of us from a different universe doesn't know, but from here, when I know I've seen their albums on both vinyl and CD? Inconceivable.

If you are into drinks or games, you should come see me at my new place of work — The Bit & Barrel. Can't say I've ever been a barkeep for money before, but I know my way around a pint. Apparently the customers like my accent — except the bloke who swore it was fake and was hexed for his trouble.

I'm working most Sundays because they're busy and need the hands, but I managed to get the next one off. Think we're due a proper roast, yeah? Cheer you up a bit since Ned has gone.

OOC: The Bit & Barrel doesn't exist. I made it up! It's loosely based on this San Francisco bar and one I went to about a decade ago. The general idea is an English pub on one floor, and a second bar and several rooms with all kinds of arcade games in the basement. The lower floor is definitely loud/sensory overload. The first is a normal pub-style establishment. Use as it suits for yourselves/your characters. Address and other info will be on the reference sheet in due course!

Have you seen the Pickleball signs around? I'd like to participate. Anyone want to join me? I hear it is a lot of fun.
