Once settled, Derek closed his eyes, exhaustion setting in. At least out here he had everyone in earshot - it was easy to keep an ear on the sibling dog who was clearly laying wherever he was, whining softly and not moving. "You were going to let him out. It would take him snapping once and-" Derek shook his head, coughing a little, though the coughing was becoming less painful. "I couldn't help the dog and I wouldn't be able to help you." He was effectively useless for his pa...for the creatures in his care.
As the dogs started to settle, so was Derek able to as well. The puppy, too young to understand the implications of the scent of blood, radiated contentment from Stiles' lap and the other dogs were better just being near. The presence of dead bodies nearby was distressing but they had their leader near. "Don't let me sleep for too long," Derek murmured, knowing he was on the verge of dozing. "Don't...don't go either."
