Who: Trubel and Nick Burkhardt
Where: The streets of New Orleans
When: Just after her arrival
What: Nick gets Trubel up to speed
Status: Closed/On-going
Warnings: N/A

Waking up in the weird house, propped up on a mountain of pillows, had been a shock. And not just because of the décor. Trubel had been pulled into a lay-by sleeping off a stressful day of driving before she'd been projected here. What's more, there was no sign of Josh, which meant he was going to have to fend for himself.

"Crap!" she muttered under her breath as she checked out the street she'd ended up in, unsure quite how many turns she'd made since leaving the house. Speaking to Nick had made her feel a little better, but there was nothing comfortable about her current situation. Trubel knew that if she happened upon some stray wesen her day could go from bad to murderous in two simple steps.

"C'mon, Nick," she grumbled as she parked herself against a wall and waited for her friend to show up, all the time keeping her eyes averted from strangers passing by. She didn't want a scene. Not when Trubel had no idea what they might be up against here and she needed an explanation before she could begin to relax.

"Don't tell me, you took the time to redecorate," she pushed herself away from the wall as Nick pulled up in front of her. Trubel flashed him a quick smile. "Kinda glad to see you. Didn't think it'd be in these circumstances," she slid into the seat next to him. "So, what are 'these circumstances', Nick? Cause I'm all out of answers."

When Nick had decided to take a quick look at the network he hadn’t expected to see Trubel on there. It was a bit of a surprised and it replied to her as quickly as he could. The whole wormhole business was still pretty new to him. He and Juliette had only been dealing with it for maybe a little over a month, so when Trubel started asking questions, he felt bad that he really didn’t have of the answers. He was still learning about it all himself. Once he got Trubel’s location that’s when he left the police station and started making his way to the street that she would be waiting for him on.

“Funny. Get in.” Nick smiled watching as Trubel walked over and got into the car. He really hadn’t noticed until now that he actually missed having her around. “I think we’re destined to meet under weird circumstances.” Once Trubel was in the car, he started to drive again. “I told you everything that I already know, which, I know, isn’t a lot. But there isn’t a lot of information about any of this.”

She shot Nick a smirk as she fastened her seatbelt. Leaving Nick and Juliette had been hard - harder than she would have thought possible a few months ago. Trubel was used to moving on, usually without a goodbye, but with the Grimm and his girlfriend she'd found that elusive thing she'd missed her whole life. Family. "I'm not sure we do normal," she answered with a shrug, which was an understatement. "This would have to be right up there with the strange and unusual, though. Okay, maybe not as strange as Rosalie and Monroe's wedding," Trubel conceded with a frown, still feeling a pang of guilt for having to ruin their big day. Gotta love being a Grimm! "You gotta know something, Nick. Hello," she gave him a look of bemusement, "you're a cop! Aren't you supposed to investigate, or something?" Trubel asked him with a teasing grin.

“I don’t think I can remember what normal is.” Nick had been a Grimm for four years now, so anything before that, it seemed like a distant memory. Weird, crazy, and unusual was his normal whether he had wanted it or not. Although, this whole wormhole business was well beyond anything he had ever dealt with or knew anything about. “It wasn’t strange…it just didn’t end the way it should have.” Because that was how all of their lives went. They couldn’t have one day where nothing happened. “I don’t know much. I just know it’s a wormhole. I know there is no way back home until it sends up back. And I know we can only leave the city for twenty-four hours before we’re brought back here again.” He really did wish he had more answers, but he didn’t. And neither did anyone else. “I have been investigating…just not about the wormhole.”

She didn't need to reply, her sigh told Nick everything he needed to know about her knowledge of normality. In short, it was non-existent. Ever since she'd seen her foster-father woge Trubel's life had been one disaster after another. Until she'd met Nick, who'd finally made sense of her abilities. "Whatever it was, they deserved better," she said with a sad smile, "they were good to me and it shouldn't have had to go down like that." She listened to the limited information her friend had on their current residence, which was scarce, to say the least. "In other words, if you kill someone don't bother running? Got it." In anyone else's life, that would have been a joke, but Trubel had known more violence in her short life than anyone had any business knowing. "Oh yeah?" she looked Nick's way, "anything interesting, or just every-day cop stuff?" which was Grimm for 'does anything need hitting and if so, how hard?'.

Nick glanced over at Trubel. He knew she never really had a normal life. It was one thing after another for her until the day they had met. “Who needs normal,” he said in a joking manner. He didn’t want it or need it. He was used to being a Grimm and when that had been taken away it felt wrong and he almost felt a little bit lost. “At least it had been pretty much over by the time you came rushing in.” He wasn’t sure if that would make her feel any differently, but she really shouldn’t beat herself up about it. Something was bound to happen. That was just their lives. “Yeah, pretty much.” That was probably the only good thing about the twenty-four hour rule. If one of the refugees ever did something they wouldn’t be able to run very far. “Normalish cop stuff.” Trubel barely popped up in New Orleans and she was already looking to kick some Wesen ass. Too bad there weren’t any around, as far as he could tell.

A few minutes later and they were home. Hopefully Trubel didn’t felt the need to take off again. “Juliette is going to be happy to see you,” he said right before getting out of the car. He made his way up the stairs and inside of the house. “Juliette,” he called out. When he didn’t get a reply he glanced back at Trubel. “I guess she’s not home.”

Despite herself, Trubel smiled over at Nick, "a little normal every now and then would be appreciated, but I doubt it's going to happen to us any time soon." Especially if they had wormholes to deal with on top of all the usual stuff. She winced, "at least they got all their 'I dos' out of the way, cause I'm thinking a do-over would have been pretty much out of the question, unless they changed the guest-list." He was right, it could have been much worse. That didn't mean spoiling their wedding was any less her fault, though. Trubel knew Nick was simply trying to allow her to cut herself some slack, which said a lot more about him than it did her. "Only normalish?" she asked with a curious frown, "anything I get to help out with?" Hey, a girl had to try, right? If she couldn't be useful to Nick, she might have to do something productive with her life. Like get a job... which didn't bear thinking about.

It was strange to see the house she'd woken up in once more, in the cold light of day it didn't look nearly as intimidating. Trubel followed Nick inside, glancing around at the place as she walked. She smiled at Juliette's name. In a short space of time she'd done more for her than any of the foster parents she'd known, but Trubel still couldn't quite allow herself to believe that she was actually wanted here. "We'll have to catch up later," she said a little disappointed, but there was always one good thing about staying with the Grimm. His fridge! Trubel headed towards the kitchen and within the space of a minute had a small feast piled up on a plate. "Skipped breakfast," she told Nick by way of explanation as she hopped up onto the counter and dug in, "sandwich?" she offered.

“I don’t think we’re allowed that luxury.” Nothing was normal at home for them and if this place was anything like Portland they weren’t going to see normal here either. “Yeah.” At least they had that. “Not unless you know anything about magic or wannabe magic.” He still wasn’t sure if this person thought they had real magic or if they really did have magic.

He was pretty sure Juliette would be home later. Normally he was the one coming home late. If hadn’t been for Trubel popping up on the network he still would have been back at the station looking over the information they had on the murder. “Yeah, looks like it.” And off Trubel went. He followed right behind her. He really wasn’t surprised that they ended up in the kitchen. He leaned against the counter and watched as Trubel made herself right at home. It was like time had never passed. “No, thanks.”
